Senior Scientist II-

The Research and Innovation (R&I) Technology team within the Business Unit Novecare supports the business in new opportunities by developing sustainable chemistries and processes that create value.  This position is located within the Technology Center team of the Bristol Research & Innovation Centre, a multidisciplinary location which also hosts the application labs for the Syensqo Novecare business unit as well as the Syensqo Corporate R&I Process Safety and Automation & Robotics laboratories. The R&I Technology team develops new surfactants, monomers, and natural polymer molecules and provides scale up and process support for the development of these new molecules, as well as, supporting process improvement efforts for existing manufacturing processes. 

 

You will bring: 

A candidate with a Bachelors of Science (BS)  with 5 - 10 years’ relevant industrial experience; MS with 3+ years overall experience or PhD with 1 year practical experience  Preferably in the field of Organic Chemistry and who is experienced in development of novel surfactants, monomers, and polymers to support the New Development projects for the Novecare Business Unit markets (Agro, Home and Personal Care, Coatings and Industrial Solutions). Strong organizational skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time for different markets Strong communication skills (written and oral) and ability to work effectively within a team environment. Must be able to write clear, concise reports and maintain a detailed electronic laboratory notebook.  Motivated to learn through doing experimental work

Maintain good laboratory practices - includes working in a shared lab environment with other scientists, accurately documenting work done Proactively support the development of new molecules and processes Perform lab-scale and pilot experiments and perform routine characterization of molecules in order to obtain all necessary data for product / process development Analyze the lab data acquired and efficiently communicate results internally Develop process models (material balance, kinetics, etc.) based on experimental data. Summarize results and discuss conclusions with the project, the Techno R&I, and market teams. Ensure laboratory equipment is maintained and key supplies are kept up to date.  Successfully complete assigned work on schedule.   Proper housekeeping Know the location of first aid and emergency response equipment, chemicals, and chemical documentation. Knowing and following key Solvay safety policies and procedures for the site and the labs Taking action and reporting any unsafe act / condition / behavior. Everyone on site is empowered to intervene on any unsafe act that they may observe. Attending laboratory monthly safety training  Touring and reviewing safety equipment in the lab.  Being able to access and understand SDSs - preparing Lab Activity Checklists Wearing appropriate PPE while in the laboratory Obtaining advanced equipment or process specific safety training when necessary according to the specific dangers of present assignment

You will also bring:   

Degree in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry preferred (or equivalent) Theoretical & practical knowledge on performing chemical reactions  Interest in hands on laboratory work Proactivity, autonomy and open-mindedness Be able to solve problems Good leadership and interpersonal skills with ability to train less experienced researchers in the technical domain. Knowledge of more complex systems and processes Proven record of delivery Must have strong organizational skills  Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills; Strong scientific and technical presentation skills Safe lab practices and record keeping experience are essential  Ability to work in a team environment and cross functional groups is important Responsible for conception, design, plan and execution and interpretation of experiments

 

You will get:

The U.S. base salary range reasonably expected to be paid for this position is $90,880 to $113,600 per year. Since actual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted base salary range. Total compensation for this role also includes bonus and/or other incentives.  16, or more, weeks of maternity/paternity and co-parenting leave, according to local regulations.  Training platform for all employees Free language courses (24 languages available) Free well-being sessions (physical and psychological)

Percentage of travel required: up to 25%
