Accountabilities:
The Senior Scientist/Imaging Specialist/Study Director for Animal Sciences and Technologies will have primary responsibilities conducting in vivo studies, overseeing the PET/CT work, and study directing for CPSS Safety Studies.
- Fully competent in a range of in vivo procedures (including multiple dosing routes, blood collection techniques, necropsy skills), who can initiate, direct, troubleshoot and perform research experiments in laboratory animals (mice and rats).
- Capable of being responsible for leading a specialty area within the department (ie: imaging, surgical models, or advanced tumor/humanized models)
- Influenced in vivo toxicology study designs to conduct scientifically driven studies that would meet the requirements of regulatory agencies while ensuring animal welfare.
- Collaborate with senior scientific staff for study design and new model development.
- Generate clear, complete, and accurate data sets; this includes documenting raw data in computerized data-capturing systems and handwritten records.
- Manage own work to ensure that agreed targets are met in a timely manner and to agreed quality standards while communicating progress appropriately.
- Maintain current knowledge in laboratory animal sciences (e.g., through continued professional development (CPD), collaboration with peer scientists, or contact with other internal groups).
- Responsible for the care and wellbeing of laboratory animals.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Trains and mentors junior staff; evaluating productivity and communication between established standards and team members.
- Documents and reports potential or actual problems or deviations related to team performance, devises solutions to improve performance.
- Conducts meetings with team to keep them informed of current and future projects, policies, and procedures.
- Works with team to ensure that all work is performed according to the standard and policies.
Essential Skills/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 3+ years in vivo imaging and/or study director experience required
- Ability to perform animal husbandry tasks for a variety of species, routine facility operations tasks, identifies and reports any abnormal findings, ad maintains the highest standards of animal care and welfare.
- Willingness to work with infectious agents, hazardous materials, and radioactive materials
- Ability to work flexibly across different areas and participate in provision of weekend and out of hours support
Desirable Skills/Experience
- Certification from the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science at the LAT level within 6 months of hire.
- Ability to perform technical skills (particularly IV dosing) using radioactive materials and handling/care of animals previously dosed with radioactive materials.
- Understanding of PET/CT, IVIS, and other imaging systems to conduct studies and collect data as appropriate under the direction of the Imaging Lead.
- Experience performing necropsy and biodistribution studies of radiolabeled compounds.
- Experience operating preclinical PET/CT scanners and IVIS scanner.
- Exposure in data analysis for PET/CT, IVIS, and other imaging systems.
- Experience in the pharmaceutical industry and an understanding of the range of disciplines within research
- Experience in using technology to improve efficiencies and data reliability
- Ability to lead small in vivo sciences projects
- Problem-solving skills related to in vivo research and data analysis
- Understanding of the basic principles and concepts in a broad range of technology, or substantial experience in a narrower field of technology
- Understanding of compliance systems
