Trane Technologies is currently seeking a Senior Screw Compressor Engineer who is a key member of the Advanced Technologies Applied Compression team, which works across the business to understand and develop compression technology to meet our customers’ needs. In this role, you will solve technology needs through mechanical design, analysis, testing, qualification and manufacturing integration of screw compressors used in HVAC and refrigeration applications.

Where is the work:

Due to the nature of this role, this position has been designated as a Hybrid work schedule with work performed onsite 3 days each week.

 

What you will do:

Key Engineer with ability to lead new product development and new technology projects while coordinating with team members in multiple locations globally.Mechanical design of screw compressors from concept selection to detailed drawing, including design of pressure vessels, castings, bearings, lubrication systems, and seals. Specify, select, and apply motors in compressor applications. Perform stress and deflection analysis, rotor dynamics, and vibration analysis. Identify multiple candidate solutions, perform trade off studies and select optimum solutions based on product requirements.Key focus on casting and machining design of critical components while adhering to pressure vessels standards. Integration of bearing and sealing systems design with understanding of lubrication systems and component selection.Work with Team Leaders (Program Managers) to coordinate activities of team members consisting of engineers, designers, and laboratory technicians. Facilitate design reviews, conduct design FMEAs, develop and execute virtual engineering and physical testing validation plans. Use virtual development tools to predict performance and optimize compressor design.Collaborate with engineering teams across the business to provide compressor selection recommendations and refine design to meet application needs. Maintain awareness of new technology through supplier relationships, participation in technical societies, academic research projects, and conferences.Create and maintain engineering documentation, including technical reports, lab test results, drawings, models, and specifications.Collaborate with product engineering, manufacturing engineering, and operations.  Assure compatibility between design and process capabilities.Work closely with key suppliers in all technical matters and maintain contact throughout the project.Specify, select, and apply motors in compressor applications as requires while collaborating with motor design experts.Identify areas requiring analysis. Perform design analysis and calculations with accuracy in areas including stress and deflection analysis, rotor dynamics, and vibration analysis.Follow sound engineering practices to develop practical design solutions. Maintain awareness of new technology through supplier relationships, participation in technical societies, academic research projects, and conferences. Stay current with engineering fundamentals and technology.

 

What you will bring:

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent is required.Minimum of 5 years’ work experience in product design and development.Mechanical design and engineering skills, with practical hands-on hardware experience collaborating specifically with on-site engineering labs, as well as capability to coordinate with remote engineering labs.Capable of generating creative and innovative solutions to complex problems.Excellent analytical, mathematical, problem-solving, and project management skills.Experience with clean sheet design of rotating machinery desired.Subject matter expertise in one or more aspects of mechanical design related to rotating machinery design.Ability to select proper modeling and simulation tools, understand outputs, and integrate information to make informed engineering choices.Strong verbal and written communication skills – ability to communicate up, down, and across the organization.Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills - ability to communicate up, down, and across organization.Knowledge of Heating, Ventilation & Air-Conditioning/Refrigeration (HVAC/R) fundamentals is desired.Familiar with new product development and new technology gate review processes.Experience with Creo or equivalent 3D modeling software.Demonstrated leadership of technical teams.

 

Compensation: 

Base Salary: $110,000 - $150,000
