**Job Description:** **_Summary:_** The Manager of Global Calibration Services primary responsibility is to ensure that the calibration services provided exceed customer needs and expectations. This is accomplished through development and execution of a global calibration strategy that ensures sustainable differentiation, maintains the highest standards quality, and incorporates technological advancements in measurement science. The primary responsibilities of this position include maintenance of the laboratory’s ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation, a key customer requirement which requires a detailed understanding of national and international calibration standards (usually ASTM or ISO). Working closely with business teams this position is responsible for the development, effective deployment, and maintenance of new and innovative calibration procedures and equipment in support of the over 200 remote field service engineers. The Manager is responsible for providing regular communication, support & training to the global service organization, driving activities and decisions focusing on the effective deployment of this equipment, the technical integrity of the methods and equipment, and the overall quality of calibration operations to ensure we maintain our reputation as a world class calibration laboratory. _Principal Duties & Responsibilities:_ + Through its Deputy Calibration Laboratory Managers provides guidance and oversite of all calibration’s operations worldwide.Responsible for supplying, calibrating, and controlling all calibration equipment used by Field Service. + Responsible for all communication with Instron’s accrediting body as it relates to our scope of accreditation. + Continuously monitors and improves the laboratory’s ability to effectively and efficiently meet the needs of the field organization. + Manages the development, implementation and release of new calibration related service products and calibration equipment while ensuring rigorous application of good metrology practices and adherence to the quality and technical requirements of ISO 17025. + Responsible for the development, direction, and expansion of the NVLAP accredited field-based laboratories in Southeast Asia and Europe. + Schedules, organizes, and directs assessments of the NVLAP laboratory by our accrediting body as well as customers. + Responsible for attending national and international standards development meetings to ensure that Instron’s interests are represented, to participate in development of the standards pertinent to Instron’s business, and to understand how changes made to the standards affect our operations. + Responsible for identifying requirements for the development service-related software through the management of the service software group. + Responsible for the operation of laboratory facilities in Norwood, MA., High Wycombe, UK, and Barcelona, Spain to include tracking inventory, equipment, software, maintenance, and assigning and evaluating work. Plans, promotes, and tracks training and professional development of staff. + Detailed understanding of relevant national and international quality and calibration standards, and ensures our products, processes, and operations comply. Ensures the Lab’s operations comply with all requirements of ISO 17025 and applicable Instron Quality Manuals. + Ensures the Lab supports the business requirements of our service organization while not compromising technical and quality standards. + Monitors the quality of calibrations performed in-house and in the field. May perform audits of field and factory personnel and administer proficiency tests. + Keeps abreast of changes and advances in technology associated with Instron equipment, metrology, transducers, and calibration. + Typically, will have the competence to maintain Signatory Status on all calibrations within the Lab’s operations. + Responsible for creation and maintenance of the documentation necessary for an ISO 17025 compliant operation, and effectively communicates changes to the organization. + Enforces safety regulations and in general, promotes safe conduct and ensures the safety of personnel and equipment.Accountable for compliance with applicable government safety regulations. + Responsible for neat and orderly housekeeping and ensuring proper maintenance of equipment for function and safety. **_Knowledge, Skills, & Ability Required:_** + Ability to manage a large technical service operation that adheres to high standards of quality and integrity, including a staff of calibration technicians and support personnel. Typically, 10 years’ experience in Service, Manufacturing, Engineering, or a related field. + Level of technical competence and expertise typically achieved through attainment of a bachelor’s degree and 2 - 4 years of experience in mechanical or electrical engineering with training and/or experience with transducers and metrology. + Good interpersonal skills, positive attitude, and high energy level to motivate and lead direct labor personnel, and to effectively interact with all departments within Instron. + Ability to properly and adequately communicate both verbal and written instruction and ideas to others. + Ability to interact with customers and provide a high level of service in a manner that promotes the premier image of Instron. **_Working Conditions:_** Office and laboratory conditions with occasional periods in production floor environment with exposure to dust, dirt, and noise. Occasional travel (10%-20%) is required.
