Senior SHE Specialist

The Senior SHE Specialist is responsible for supporting the plant’s environmental program. This position reports to the SH&E Manager.

What You Will Do:

Ensures that Garyville plant procedures and programs comply with LDEQ and EPA environmental regulations.

Manages the following tasks that are required for regulatory compliance by local, state, or federal agencies: Annual Air Emissions Inventory and Annual Air Compliance report

Assist the plant with monitoring, sampling, waste shipment tracking and testing programs as needed and to demonstrate compliance with regulatory requirements and environmental permit limitations.

Create annual and monthly reports such as Tier II, Annual Waste Summary, Toxic Release Inventory and Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMRs)

Coordinate regulatory inspections and regulatory reporting with agencies

Interpret regulations and identify sound solutions across air, waste and water medias

Support the Garyville Plant as the environmental expert during third party audits, such as: ECAP, RC14001, LDEQ, and EPA. 

Lead environmental improvement and waste reduction projects to help meet company sustainability goals.

Serves as an environmental resource to field and operations personnel, process engineers, pre-startup safety reviews (PSSRs) and Incident investigations.

Supports the guiding principles of Responsible Care to continually improve Garyville’s plant’s safety, health, environmental performance, process safety, security, and efforts to respond to public concerns relating to design, development, manufacture, storage, marketing, distribution, use and ultimate safe disposal of chemical products.

Supports and is committed to the Quality Improvement Process.  Plans strategies to ensure error-free work by “doing it right the first time” and conveys this attitude in the daily performance of various duties.

Supports and incorporates the activities of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) into ongoing work duties through teamwork within and across departments. 

Supports new product introduction to facility assuring acceptable controls are in place.

Position Details: This position is based in Garyville, LA

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering, environmental engineering, environmental science or related field

5 years of relevant environmental compliance experience and knowledge in a manufacturing environment

Demonstrated experience applying environmental regulations (ex. RCRA, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act) and working with environmental regulatory agencies (ex. EPA, LDEQ)

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience managing LPDES wastewater permits, stormwater permits and large quantity generator (LQG) sites

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to deal with various levels of employees, management, vendors, and customers

Strong organizational skills, with an ability to be flexible in a dynamic work environment

Good working knowledge of SAP

Annual or Hourly Compensation Range

The pay range for this position is $98,600.00 - $148,000.00. Many factors are taken into consideration when determining compensation, such as experience, education, training, geography, etc. We comply with all minimum wage and overtime laws.
