Senior Sleep Technician 40-Hours Evening
**Job Type:** Regular **Time Type:** Full time **Work Shift:** Evening (United States of America) **FLSA Status:** Non-Exempt **When you join the growing BILH team, you're not just taking a job, you’re making a difference in people’s lives.** Position Summary: Under general supervision of the sleep center medical director (MD) and chief technologist, performs Polysomnography (PSG) to assess multiple physiologic parameters during sleep, including but not limited to EEG, EOG, EMG, EKG, and ventilation. PSG may include initiation of therapy by physician order. Guidelines for minimal technical standards have been outlined by the American Association of Sleep Medicine. The senior sleep technician acts as lead technologist when designated by the chief technologist and on shifts and on sites where the chief technologist is not present. The senior technician scores studies and generates reports following department standards. Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to: 1. Satisfies department requirements for registration as a Polysomnographic Tech through the BRPT within defined time frame. 2. Scores PSG, MSLT, MWT and HST studies following all the criteria of our Sleep Disorders Center and the guidelines established in the “AASM Manual for Staging and Scoring of Sleep and Associated Events”. 3. Generates a comprehensive preliminary report following the department standards. 4. When designated, can act as team leader on their shift acting as lead technologist with the ability to make decisions in the absence of the chief technologist, assuring the efficiency of work flow and patient safety. 5. Demonstrates an appreciable knowledge of all Sleep procedures performed in the department. 6. Performs all night sleep studies and Multiple Sleep Latency tests maintaining quality assurance between 90 – 100%. 7. Titrates CPAP/BIPAP such that a prescription could be called in the following day. 8. Administers O2 therapy independently or in conjunction with CPAP/BIPAP. 9. Troubleshoots faulty equipment and makes necessary alterations in order to continue with the study in progress. 10. Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients medical problems and physiological events, especially cardiac dysrhythmias, respiratory events, and seizures. 11. Collects patient information by reviewing existing information in the patient’s medical record or from referring physician’s office notes. Completes the patient questionnaire and is able to recognize/identify the patients sleep/wake complaint. 12. Evaluates the study as it is being recorded and to write a preliminary report. 13. Calibrates, evaluates, and if necessary adjusts the instrument to proper technical standards in order to obtain top-quality recordings. 14. Recognizes artifacts and takes appropriate steps to eliminate them. Recognize and documents any abnormal clinical manifestation during the testing procedure. 15. Complies with department expectations pertaining to registration with the BRPT. 16. Continuing education – Attends sleep meetings, keeps informed on current and new technological advancements in the study of sleep medicine. Shows initiative in learning new procedures occurring in the lab. 12. Incorporates Lahey Clinic Guiding Principles , Mission Statement and Goals into daily activities. 13. Complies with all Lahey Clinic Policies. 14. Complies with behavioral expectations of the department and Lahey Clinic. 15. Maintains courteous and effective interactions with colleagues and patients. 16. Demonstrates an understanding of the job description, performance expectations, and competency assessment. 17. Demonstrates a commitment toward meeting and exceeding the needs of our customers and consistently adheres to Customer Service standards. 18. Participates in departmental and/or interdepartmental quality improvement activities. 19. Participates in and successfully completes Mandatory Education. 20. Performs all other duties as needed or directed to meet the needs of the department. Minimum Qualifications: Education: High School with additional training in sleep technology sufficient to lead to registration eligible status. Licensure, Certification, Registration: Registered Polysomnographic Tech (R PSG T) through the BRPT. BLS Required Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: Understands and utilizes the basic principles of polysomnographic instrumentation, including analog and/or digital recording, ancillary DC devices, and positive airway pressure such that a study can be performed and presented for interpretation. Demonstrates leadership and team building skills. Fully competent to score sleep tests as established in “AASM Manual for Staging and Scoring of Sleep and Associated Events”.
