The Senior Software Development Engineer - Payments role is part of the Expedia Global Payments (EGP) team which builds innovative products, services, and tools that enable customers from all over the world to pay for travel in a variety of ways. We build, operate, and improve payment services for Expedia Group's brands and our suppliers. Our services are the nexus of a globally distributed system that spans many organizations, processes $100B annually in more than 55 currencies in over 155 countries each year, and across a diverse set of payment and payout options.

More specifically, you will join a team focused on the VRBO payment system. In this role, you will work on projects to improve system reliability and security, enhance the payment experience, and increase the flexibility of our payout process. You will work in a motivated, fast-moving agile team and communicate directly with stakeholders, product management, and leadership. You will also be a part of the progressive, inclusive development team, where learning is treasured, shared and innovation is rewarded.

In this role, you will:

Develop, test, support, and Services built in Java, Kotlin, Spring Boot, Kafka, Amazon Web Services, and APIs built with Dropwizard.

Integrate with Expedia’s highly distributed architecture, composed of hundreds of separate services and applications, fronted by a highly adaptable web layer and backed by the latest data science and machine learning platforms.

Research, design, and recommend frameworks and architectural/code design patterns.

Build, operate, and improve payment services for Expedia Group's brands our suppliers (hoteliers, airlines, vacation rental owners/agencies, etc.), and our customers.

Build robust, well-designed and well-engineered distributed systems.

Apply software design principles, data structures and/or design patterns and computer science fundamentals to write code that is clean, maintainable, optimized, modular with good naming conventions.

Advocate for Quality Excellence (such as unit testing, establishing SLAs, programming for resiliency and scalability).

Experience and Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or Masters in a related Technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience.

6+ years of experience in software development, preferably in back-end development, or equivalent and related experience.

Proficient in Java/Kotlin, J2EE, Spring Boot, and relational or NoSQL databases.

Experience working in multiple large scale, multi-quarter projects as a part of a decentralized team and project.

Experience driving technical design end to end for at least 3 projects.

Experience mentoring other engineers and team members.

Previous payments experience is a plus.

The total cash range for this position in Austin is $173,000.00 to $242,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $277,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
