Senior Software Engineer, Podman AI Lab
About the job Podman AI Lab is an extension of Podman Desktop running on a local developer workstation, and providing an easy way to learn and experiment with Large Language Models. The set of AI recipes and models is maintained as a separate public repository in GitHub, it provides a collection of AI based containerized applications that can be used to quickly run and test models and prototype applications. The target persona for those applications is a software engineer, possibly in the early learning phase of AI and LLM use.

Podman Desktop team is looking for a senior software engineer  to join its distributed team of software and quality engineers as the team expands. New areas of work are largely AI related, like support of the InstructLab project to build an Open Source based AI approach to training Granite LLM, expansion of the AI applications set, and support of various new Red Hat products like RHEL AI and Openshift AI..

The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic developer with knowledge and experience in both front end developement and AI, machine learning, or deep learning technologies. You will join a very strong team, and be part of a successful project covering new technologies and products.


 

What you will do

Help expand and maintain Podman Desktop and AI Lab code base as more AI features are added to the AI Lab plugin.

Debugging, implementing features, writing patches, tests, reviewing other people's PRs.

Help with releases and documentation when needed.

Being part of the upstream, engage with the community like answering on the public channel and commenting on issues.

What you will bring

Proficiency in Typescript or JavaScript language.

Some practical experience with AI, Large Language  Models

Experience developing container based applications

Experience contributing in an upstream open source project.

Strong self-motivation and organizational skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

The following is considered a plus:

Experience with Linux, bash, containers or Kubernetes.

Experience as maintainer of an Open Source project.

Familiarity with participating in an agile development team.

Maintenance of an AI based application
