This position can be based remotely in any of our approved hiring regions. Our hybrid distributed workforce philosophy allows us to find the best talent in the country and build diverse teams, while allowing our colleagues to work from the location that works best for them. For those who prefer to work in-office, we have locations in San Francisco and Pittsburgh. We also plan to use these spaces to bring together teammates to drive creativity and innovation.

Your day to day Engineer: Architect and own large parts of our complex loan origination platform and associated web applications. Maintain a high quality bar: Champion code quality through peer-reviewed designs and code, focusing on test automation using unit, integration and end-to-end testing. Reduce Technical Debt: We allocate a certain percentage of each team’s time to tackling engineering initiatives focused on reducing tech debt. Every engineer contributes to these initiatives. Execute: Focus on delivering high impact initiatives that provide value to the customer on a daily basis. Collaborate: Work closely with our design and product teams as well as with our business stakeholders to build the right solutions for our customers. Customer-first: Ensure that our customers are successful and happy. Define Technical Strategy: You’ll own technical strategy for broad or complex requirements and come up with insightful and forward-looking approaches that go beyond the direct team and solve large open-ended problems. Who we’re looking for
We are looking for frontend, backend and full stack engineers. It all depends on where you can have the most impact. The product-oriented teams are cross-functional and are able to work quickly without taking dependencies in order to deliver the most impact in the shortest amount of time. These cross-functional teams operate like small independent business units with their own goals that align with the company goals. Experience: You are a proficient software engineer with 5+ years of professional experience. Product focused: You take pride in building high-quality, user-friendly products. Problem solver: You excel at understanding and breaking down complex problems. You pay attention to detail. Great communicator: You are candid and honest. You can adapt your communication style to different audiences and you can effectively communicate in writing and in person or on a video call. Self-driven: You make things happen. You show a strong desire to succeed and are looking for opportunities to learn and grow. Productive/Impact-oriented: You are able to get a lot done quickly. You are willing to introduce new processes and technologies to the team that will improve productivity across the whole engineering team. Leadership: You show the ability to grow into a company leader. You will work with other leaders across the company to build company culture and to help shape the company’s future. Nice to have Programming Languages: Ruby, JavaScript, TypeScript and Kotlin although we are generally language agnostic. We expect that if you’ve learned more than one programming language you can learn ours. Frontend Frameworks: React and GraphQL Backend Frameworks: Rails, Node.js, Kafka Databases: Postgres, Redis Service Oriented Architecture: We are shifting from being a monolithic Rails application to a distributed set of services. Experience having done this in the past is super useful to us. AppSec: We handle customer’s private information and we move billions of dollars around. Having experience with application security is important to us.

Kiavi takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. Work locations are categorized into one of three tiers based on cost of labor for that geographic area. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Tier A - $149,700 - $224,500 + benefits

Tier B - $142,200 - $213,400 + benefits

Tier C - $134,700 - $202,100 + benefits

Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. Please note that the pay range listed above reflects the base salary only, and does not include the target value benefits.

Benefits and Perks 

Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance: Kiavi offers free employee-only coverage for medical, dental, and vision plans. Dependents receive a heavily discounted premium, competitively placed in the 90th percentile for cost. Health Savings Account (HSA): For those enrolled in a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP), Kiavi provides an annual employer contribution to HSAs: $500 for individual coverage and $1,000 for dependents. Disability and Life Insurance: Immediate access to short-term and long-term disability insurance, as well as group life and AD&D insurance, with coverage at 1x annual salary. Remote Work Policy: Kiavi supports working remotely for day to day activities for most roles and occasionally may ask employees to gather in person for key meetings, trainings, team building etc. For remote workers, Kiavi offers a one-time office setup reimbursement of up to $500 and a monthly $75 stipend for internet and phone expenses. For in-office workers, Kiavi offers employer contributions to commuter benefits account, either for parking or public transportation. Flexible Time Off: Employees are empowered to manage their own time off, with no strict limits, as long as it's approved by their manager. Paid Leaves: Up to 8 weeks of paid leave for medical or caregiver purposes, and 12 weeks of paid maternity/paternity leave. Short-term disability leave is also available for birthing mothers. 401(k) & Company Match: A 401(k) plan managed by Fidelity, with Kiavi matching 100% of contributions up to 3% of compensation or $4,000 (whichever is less). All employer contributions are immediately vested. Product Ownership: All employees think like an owner because all employees play a critical role in making our business great. Many roles are eligible for stock option grants.
