We are on a journey to enable developer friendly, mission-critical, AI enabled operational Databases across relational, non-relational and OSS offerings.​ ​​​​SQL Developer Experiences team in the ​​​​Azure Data SQL group is hiring for a Senior Software Engineer, who can help shape and build the next generation of technologies to create a state-of-the-art database that supports the next wave of cloud-native modern applications. You will collaborate with our database experts and solve complex problems to improve SQL Server Engine. You would be responsible for developing and delivering features that enable developers to create data-centric applications on Azure SQL Database and SQL Server. You would be responsible for working on the next AI enabled version of SQL Server and Azure SQL. ​​ We do not just value differences or different perspectives. As a result, our customers are better served. **Responsibilities** **Responsibilities** ​​​​​​- Developing and delivering features that enable developers to build data-centric applications on Azure SQL Database and SQL Server. - Modernizing Azure SQL DB with new APIs for data retrieval and data analytics. Modernize SQL support to natively support AI ML workloads - Design, implement, test, and ship features that meet customer needs and business goals. - Contribute to code reviews, design reviews, and team discussions. - Leads discussions for the architecture of products/solutions and creates proposals for architecture by testing design hypotheses and helping to refine code plans. Provides reviews, proposed solutions, and inputs to architects. - Partially owns responsibility for architecting of solutions, with minimal technical oversight. Develops design documents for designs or User Stories and determines the technology that will be leveraged and how it will interact. Shares learnings and identified solutions from investigations with the team and owns for some design decisions. Assures system architecture meets security and compliance requirements and expectations. - Maintains communication with key partners across the Microsoft ecosystem of engineers. Acts as a key contact for leadership to ensure alignment with partners' expectations. Considers partner teams across own organization and their end goals for products to drive and achieve desirable user experiences and fitting dynamic needs of partners/customers through product development. - Maintains operations of live service as issues arise on a rotational, on-call basis. Implements solutions and mitigations to more complex issues impacting performance or functionality of Live Site service and escalates as necessary. High quality technical problem solving and debugging skills. **Other Requirements** Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. **Preferred/Additional Qualifications** Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java OR equivalent experience.
