Do you want to develop automation that red teams can use to exploit security vulnerabilities in Microsoft's largest AI systems, impacting millions of users? We are looking for a **Senior Software Engineer** to join Microsoft's Python Risk Identification Tool (PyRIT) Team where you'll create software that emulates real-world attacks against our AI products. As part of the Microsoft AI Red Team—an interdisciplinary group of red teamers, adversarial Machine Learning (ML) researchers, and software developers—you’ll help identify risks in Microsoft’s most impactful AI investments. _Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond._ _In alignment with our Microsoft values, we are committed to cultivating an inclusive work environment for all employees to positively_ _impact_ _our culture every day._ **Responsibilities** + Supports the AI Red Team by building infrastructure in Azure and elsewhere + Builds and fosters the open source community around PyRIT + Researches new AI attacks and integrates them into PyRIT  + Adheres to and drives modern software engineering practices + Drives system design through well-defined interfaces across multiple components, code and design reviews, leveraging data/telemetry to make decisions  + Develops and applies “best-in-class” engineering for our services by ensuring that services and components are well-defined and modularized, secure, reliable, diagnosable, actively monitored and reusable.  + Exposes testability and test coverage issues, improves test coverage for services, organizes and implements integration tests, and resolves problem areas  + Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale. + Gains a working understanding of Microsoft businesses and collaborates across teams to create cohesive end-to-end experiences for our users  + Defines and focuses on data-driven approaches to identify customer/partner needs + Embody our culture and values **Qualifications** **Required Qualifications** + Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ yearstechnical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python + OR equivalent experience. **Other Requirements** Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: - This position will be required to pass the Microsoft background and Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. **Additional or Preferred Qualifications** + Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python + OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python + OR equivalent experience. + Demonstrated expertise in leveraging LLM libraries for fine-tuning and optimizing model outputs, including the ability to evaluate and refine prompts to enhance accuracy and relevance. + Experience identifying security vulnerabilities, implementing secure software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices, and working with large-scale computing, modeling, cybersecurity, and anomaly detection. + Proficiency in writing clean, efficient, and maintainable Python code. + Proven experience with operating AI infrastructure (networking, Azure, Hugging Face, etc.) Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
