Senior Software Engineer C++
The Opportunity
As we continue to grow as QuidelOrtho, we are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to support our R&D Instrument Platforms team. If you love to tinker, enjoy working on mission critical products and are looking to push your technical skills to the next level, we want you. This position will be in our largest segment with the most complex analyzers. Not only will this role cover existing technologies, but it will also be critical to driving out of the box thinking for our next generation of analyzers. There is a lot of work ahead of us.
The Senior Software Engineer to join our R&D Instrument Platforms organization to provide technical leadership for the realization of a new / substantially evolved existing product / feature within our portfolio of products. This position is responsible for developing software and supporting software development processes and tools. This includes, but is not limited to, requirements development, design, build, implementation, and testing.
This role will be onsite in Rochester, NY (4 days/week).
The Responsibilities
Develops software solution(s) / feature(s) including DoD artifacts within an Agile development environment.Acts as Software SME in design discussions with Product Managers, Systems Engineers to define requirements.Translates requirements into list of user stories and helps deliver projects on timelines and with quality.Applies principles of SDLC and owns product DHF while complying with QMS processes.Designs software considering customer workflow, security, serviceability, performance, code maintainability.Determines technical / operational feasibility by conducting system analysis, developing POCs, etc.Demonstrates strong problem-solving skills using software debugging tools to investigate field issues.Occasional work in a Biohazard Lab environment.Coaches and mentors’ junior engineers / interns and provide domain related guidance.Represent software engineering in internal / external audits.Perform other work-related duties as assigned.The Individual
Required:
Minimum 5 years of experience with BS in Computer Science / Engineering, or minimum 3 years of progressive experience with MS in Computer Science / Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Three (3) plus years involvement in developing software for a multi-discipline complex system.Strong knowledge of object-oriented design, software design patterns.Experience with embedded real-time applications written in C++.Experience with real time operating systems and multi-task / muti-threaded embedded applications. Experience within one or more of the following areas:Software control of electro-mechanical devices utilizing stepper motors, position encoders, and other sensing technology.User Interface development using Qt or equivalent technologyRelational database design and utilization within an embedded environment.Complex machine scheduling and sequencing applications.Hands on experience with unit test frameworks, test automation tools and modern CI-CD tools (e.g. SonarQube, Jenkins, Gtest, etc.)Demonstrates the initiative and ability to explore alternate technology and approach to solve problem at hand.Skilled in breaking down problem / work items and estimating effortsAbility to conduct technology choice assessment, buy vs. build assessment, etc.Ability to work well in a team environmentExcellent communication skills: technical writing and English fluencyAbility to triage product issues and perform root cause investigations.Adapt quickly to obstacles and changing demands.Ability to think like our customers and have a service-oriented mindset.Able to work from an agile backlog and stay engaged to complete work.Preferred:

No strenuous physical activity, though occasional light lifting of files and related materials is required. 30% of time in meetings, working with team, or talking on the phone, 70% of the time at the desk on computer, doing analytical work. Minimal travel required. Travel includes airplane, automobile travel and overnight hotel.
Physical Demands
Typically, 40% of time in meetings; 60% of time at the desk on computer/doing paperwork/ on phone, doing analytical work. Walking, standing, and sitting for long periods of time are routine to accomplish tasks in this role. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Salary Transparency
The salary range for this position takes into account a wide range of factors including education, experience, knowledge, skills, geography, and abilities of the candidate, in addition to internal equity and alignment with market data. At QuidelOrtho, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The salary range for this position is $100,000 to $115,000 and is bonus eligible.
