Senior Solution Architect

**Overview:**
As part of our ongoing journey towards architecture maturity, we are looking for a Senior Solution Architect to support Manulife Bank's value streams and product lines. Candidates are required to be technically savvy and have a passion for pragmatic and collaborative solutioning. With a strong background in hands-on Engineering and Architecture, you will support value streams and product lines in their current state evaluations, future state architectural design, minimum viable architecture, and approach considerations. You will be responsible for collaborating with our product partners, analysts and engineers, and their constituent technologies, as well as working with architecture peers and domain focused solution architects in Manulife bank and beyond.
Pragmatism is essential to this role with exceptional communication capabilities and a collaborative approach towards both business and technical partners. Working closely with the broader segment architecture teams and business unit engineering groups, you will contribute to proof of technology initiatives, fulfill both non-functional and functional requirements and provide support in the definition and delivery of our critical initiatives. In addition, the role involves strong ties to the cross-divisional architecture groups and global architects for alignment of technology capabilities and adoption therein. You will also have the opportunity to flex your years of hands-on delivery experience in support of the ongoing evolution of our products and processes.
**Job Specific Accountabilities:**
Design solution architecture for initiatives and concepts drawing on knowledge of Manulife Bank systems, Enterprise standards, open source and/or commercially available platforms, and architectural best-practices learnt over your years of experience.
Lead Manulife Bank to architectural and engineering excellence by applying industry leading thought, designing scalable and secure solutions, and institutionalizing superior technology capabilities with attention to detail and technical intuition.
Apply proactive problem-solving to address functional and non-functional concerns. Provide solution options for integrating sophisticated and varied systems while understanding dependencies and anticipating challenges.
Formulate architectural and technology roadmaps for various products, assets, and technology stacks in use at the Bank.
Demonstrate a passion for architecture, digital products and services, and for using technology to enable the business to run effectively and efficiently.
Communicate with peers and teams extensively evangelizing solutions, options on approaches therein, providing technical guidance, and thought leadership on technology matters.
Balance competing priorities while adhering to deadlines and aligning resources with value demands. Adhere to and advise on architecture governance practices.
**You bring and will continuously build upon the following skills:**
Formal education in Software Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent.
Should you be Hybrid in Toronto you will be required to travel once out of the 3 days a week to the Waterloo office
5+ years in an Architecture role, and 5+ years prior working experience as a Software Engineer. The experience has been preferably in the Banking industry, a consulting firm or else a technology services provider.
Depth of knowledge or experience with architecting or implementing web applications, mobile applications, cloud based architectures, APIs and gateways, DevOps, automation, and working with event and batch based architectures.
Appreciation for business strategy and ability to create application / solution / platform architecture plans to support required business outcomes.
Domain expertise in one or more of the following (Security, Data, Governance, Azure, etc.)
Experience establishing and conforming to architecture governance practices and in working with the Architecture Review Board process, in the context of Agile.
Highly collaborative attitude, willingness to work with team members; able to influence, participate in design / code reviews, and share knowledge.
Excellent verbal and written communication; able to effectively articulate technical vision, align customers on recommended solution options, possibilities, and outcomes.
Certifications in software architecture and methods a plus: TOGAF, Certified SOA Architect, etc.
Experience working on large-scale digital transformation projects and technology strategy is desirable

**Salary range is expected to be between**
$94,220.00 CAD - $174,980.00 CAD
