Department Summary:
The N111 Future Space Capabilities Department’s mission is to provide thought leadership and data driven analysis to enable the Department of the Air Force and the US Space Force (USSF) to design, develop, acquire, and integrate future warfighting space mission area designs, including space system-of-systems architectures and space programs, in time to outpace accelerating threats. Our focus is to create, integrate, and assess space concepts, technologies, enterprise architectures, and wargaming to fight and win.
Roles & Responsibilities:
As a Senior Space Physicist, you will play a pivotal role in advancing our nation's space capabilities by contributing to the Space Warfighting Analysis Center (SWAC) project. Your expertise in modeling and simulation (M&S) will be crucial in conducting comprehensive analyses to derive actionable insights to inform USSF force designs. You will engage in in-depth explorations of physical phenomenology to support Space Force missions, ensuring the development of accurate and reliable models. Collaborating with various MITRE and government organizations, you will help build a more robust and resilient space enterprise, serving as a trusted technical advisor and expert in your field.
Job Responsibilities:
Develop models based on research into physical phenomenology to support United States Space Force missions and enhance the accuracy of USSF force designs.Conduct modeling and simulation, along with associated analysis, to optimize and propose architecture trades, ensuring robust and effective space system solutions.Develop and analyze requirements, conduct system-level and component-level trade studies, specify performance and interfaces, and advise on technology investmentsInterface with the sponsor to communicate key findings and recommendations, providing clear and actionable insights to inform decision-making processes.Provide input into and review force design recommendations, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and operational requirements.Contribute to the development and enhancement of MITRE simulation frameworks to support advanced modeling and simulation capabilities.Work with the MITRE Project Leader (PL) and Task Leader (TL) to define, develop, and execute project tasks, ensuring timely and high-quality deliverables.Collaborate with the Project and Task leader on key product deliveries and with the Department Chief Engineer (CE) to establish product delivery timelines and conduct internal-MITRE peer reviews.Integrate and coordinate data-driven solutions across MITRE and provide thought leadership in developing and coordinating recommendations for space system architectures.Collaborate and partner with MITRE leadership in other departments, divisions, MITRE Labs, and innovation centers to execute a cohesive work program with excellence and impact.Mentor junior team members on the project to grow the team’s modeling and simulation capabilities, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.Champion and broaden MITRE’s impact in the space domain, driving innovation and excellence in support of national security objectives.Basic Qualifications:
Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree, 3 years with a Master’s degree, or a PhD with relevant experience who can contribute immediately at this job step; or an equivalent combination of related education and work experience.Active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance.Demonstrated technical depth in the field of physics.Demonstrated ability to deliver M&S solutions and capabilities.Five years of experience developing Modeling & Simulation solutions or evaluations using fundamental principles of physics.Demonstrated ability to collaborate and build consensus across organizational units.Ability to think critically and proactively pursue research and problem-solving with minimal supervision.Ability to communicate highly conceptual ideas effectively.Strong technical writing and oral presentation skills.This position requires a minimum of 50% on-site work in a hybrid setting.Preferred Qualifications:
