MITRE’s Missile Defense Agency (MDA) is seeking an experienced engineer and a critical thinker with deep technical skills and a demonstrated track record of fostering, promoting, and fielding innovative ideas and solutions. This position would interface with the MDA Space Systems product development teams (integrated government, industry and FFRDC/UARCs) to bring technical solutions to bear on the government’s toughest challenges in the acquisition, design, and integration of space capabilities toward successful fielding to operations. This is a Senior System Engineer Step, Colorado Springs, CO-based, position; this work location is required to effectively foster staff relationships and shape the direct work program. 

Roles & Responsibilities:

Provide space systems engineering subject matter expertise directly to government programs to understand needs, execute and deliver quality technical engineering analysis to inform leadership decisions.Sponsor interaction – MDA senior leadership, MITRE division leadership, individual Govt personnelStakeholder coordination – Coordinate across MDA and DoD enterprises and industry partners to achieve outcomes benefiting MDA and the DoD enterprise as a wholeInform technical development, test evaluation, and integration of data distribution enterprises, requirements, and concepts of operations for space systemsBuild partnerships and coordinate efforts across MITRE, Industry, and government sponsor programsDevelop technical reports and presentations on analysis results, options, and recommendationsPresent technical recommendations to government sponsors and stakeholders

Basic Qualifications:

Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, systems engineering or equivalent and 5+ years’ experience in relevant domain; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experienceActive Secret clearance or the ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance.Demonstrated systems engineering experience, including requirements definition, engineering development, integration, and testingExperience in space systems engineeringUnderstanding of RF engineering, communications architecture developmentAnalytical, decision-making, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skillsAbility to clearly communicate complex technical ideas to executive-level stakeholdersThis position has an on-site requirement of 5 days a week on-site.

Preferred Qualifications:

Software/system development experienceAnalysis and assessment experienceMS or higher engineering degree and 3+ years’ experience in relevant engineering domainActive TS/SCI clearance

Salary compensation range and midpoint:

$117,000 - $146,500 - $176,000 Annual
