We are hiring a Senior Specialist, Health & Safety to work at our Central Phoenix Corporate office. This individual will be accountable for collaboratively working with internal and external customers to support business units in managing operational risks and achieving strategic Health & Safety (H&S) goals. This includes leading and facilitating the development and implementation of H&S programs to help operational areas understand and control hazards, respond to incidents, and comply with policies, standards, procedures, and legislation. The role will involve proactively improving performance in health and safety through the development, implementation, and governance of these programs.
What you’d be responsible for:
Lead and facilitate efforts to develop and implement H&S programs that address hazards, ensure compliance, and reduce risk across EPCOR’s operational areas.Collaborate with HSSE team members and internal and external stakeholders to review, develop, and implement H&S management system standards and practices, as directed by the Senior Manager.Support the Senior Manager, Health & Safety on strategic work plans, goals, statistical targets, and objectives. Ensure ongoing engagement with internal and external stakeholders.Provide expertise in hazard analysis, risk assessments, workplace safety, industrial hygiene, contractor management, and incident investigation.Define and map H&S and Operational processes.Interpret health and safety rules, regulations, and legislation to ensure compliance.Evaluate current health and safety performance measures and make recommendations for improvements to the H&S management system and risk mitigation strategies.Identify training gaps and recommend solutions to address them. Develop, coordinate, and deliver technical training materials.Manage the Contractor Management Program, including developing and maintaining related standards and procedures.Administer EPCOR US Operations Physical Security and Emergency Management standard compliance. Administer HSE Management System review compliance, ensuring current revisions are posted and reviewed regularly.Compile, analyze, and report on key performance metrics to ensure accurate tracking of health and safety goals.Actively participate in and support EPCOR’s “zero-injury” workplace initiative by ensuring safe working practices are followed at all times.Work with contractors, developers, customers, and employees at various levels, communicating with clarity, empathy, and professionalism.Contribute to EPCOR’s Respectful Workplace culture, supporting diversity and ensuring a work environment free from disrespect, discrimination, and workplace violence.Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by management.
What’s required to be successful:
Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of experience and education.3-7 years of full-time general industry health & safety experience.Proven experience in safety and classroom facilitation training, including the development of PowerPoint and multi-media online training programs.Strong working knowledge of OSHA and DOT compliance programs and regulations.Expertise in hazard analysis, risk assessments, and incident investigation.Experience conducting safety audits, Job Hazard Assessments, and injury & incident investigations.Recognized occupational safety certifications (OHST, ASP, CUSA, etc.) preferred.Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; SharePoint experience is a plus.Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.Ability to present information clearly and effectively to management and employees at all levels.Understanding of technical health and safety programs, including industrial hygiene, fire prevention, accident investigation, root cause analysis (RCA), ANSI standards, and NFPA regulations.Understanding of Physical Security and Emergency Response requirements in utilities industry. Experience with construction safety regulations and best practices.Process mapping experience a plus. A valid driver’s license (DL)Travel Requirement: Occasional travel may be required.
