Job Summary:

The Staff Accountant/Sr Specialist supports the financial reporting and internal control responsibilities of the Finance Department. The position entails performing critical accounting and reporting for Head Office, OSFI, CRA and external auditors. It also includes daily account reconciliation, investigation of variances, preparation of journal entries and supporting documentation.

Key Accountabilities:

Financial Reporting - responsibilities include:

Preparation of monthly and ad hoc internal reports and analysisPreparation of regulatory reports to OSFI & Statistics CanadaPreparation of tax filing to CRAPreparation of journal entries and supporting documentationCalculation of monthly adjustments for the balance sheet and income statement General & administrative expenses analyses and reports

Internal Control - responsibilities include:

Suspense account and bank reconciliations and investigationsRecord, modify and retire fixed assets. Run depreciation and reconcile between two systemsUpdate operational procedure manuals and adopt stronger internal control framework

Other - responsibilities include:

Other accounting and administrative duties as required and assignedProviding back-up and support to other team members

Technical Skills:

Proficient in Excel (including Macros and VBA), word and knowledge of other MS applicationsStrong analytical, problem solving skills, exceptional communication skills, detailed-oriented, hands-on individual with strong work ethicWillingness to learn, sustain and refresh technical accounting and systems skills

Experience & Abilities:

1-3 years of experience in an accounting and financial reporting, preferably in the banking industryUnderstanding of IFRSAbility to work in a fast-paced environment

Education & Training:

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or other Business related fieldDesignation – CPA is considered an asset or plans to pursue CPA in the future
