This experienced engineer will be directly involved in overall engineering evaluation of our Energy Technology products with specialized focus on roof top module level power electronics (MLPE) products and its interactions with energy storage devices. This engineer will be responsible for setting reliability goals, reviewing Design for Reliability (DFA), and monitoring and executing reliability demonstration tests. This person is expected to drive component and system level risk assessment and develop and monitor methodologies to evaluate design robustness and reliability.
This position will report to the Engineering Director.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Drive the engineering teams to meet Generac’s high product performance and reliability standards through DfR reviews, suggestions and guidance.Develop design verification and validation plans and report (DVP&Rs) for reliability assessment of Generac Clean Energy products at component and/or system level.Gain a deep understanding of the operating environment and performance requirements for our Clean Energy products.Create detailed procedures and reports documenting all findings and conclusions.Provide input during Risk Assessments, FMEA/DFMEAs, and Design Reviews.Ensure that test plans address requirements in all applicable standards (IEC, IEEE, etc.)Assist test development team with test setups and work with product development team to ensure functionality coverage during testing and its monitoring.Support root cause analysis and resolution of issues found during reliability tests.Monitor and determine status of reliability demonstration tests and report out to the leadership.Manage third party resources (external labs, consultants, etc.) to fulfill delegated work packages including statement of work development, scope management, commercial agreements, and Engineering reports.Support product development plans (schedule, product cost, meeting design inputs).Mentor and teach less experienced engineers.Other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Reliability Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.8 + years of relevant work experience that is aligned with the “Essential Duties and Responsibilities captured above”.Additional Skills Preferred:
Master’s degree in Electronics, or related discipline.Experience developing and/or validating power electronic products.Experience with renewable energy products.Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Knowledge and experience testing complex electronic modules.Experience with reliability failure modes of technologies involving power electronics and failure mechanisms with respect to reliability.Very good understanding of relevant test standards (IEEE, JEDEC, IEC etc.).Ability to apply engineering knowledge and experience to improve products, services, and processes.Ability to solve complex engineering problems.Statistical analysis knowledge to assess reliability risk based on design and application.Excellent oral and written communication.Strong decision-making skills.Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls.
