What you need:
High School Diploma or equivalency + Graduate of an accredited Operating Room Technician or Central Service Technician program
2 years Sterile Processing Tech or Surgical Tech experience.
Certified Registered Central Services Technician (CRCST) certification through the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) within one year of hire

Job Description:On a daily basis, the Senior Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the monitoring and coordination of the workflow. This position also maintains the Surgical Instrument Management application and the associated trays and instruments and the consumable supply inventory. Collaborates with staff and leadership to remove barriers in workflow operation, design and application. Acts as a change agent consistent with Gundersen Health Systems vision, mission and strategies. The Senior Sterile Processing Technician is proficient and well versed in all aspects of the Sterile Processing operation.
Major Responsibilities:
1. Superuser for Surgical Instrument Management application and responsible to maintain instrument item master and tray item master including adding, editing and deleting master records, maintenance of digital photos and count sheets.
2. Works collaboratively with the Sterile Processing Quality Assurance Coordinator and assists troubleshooting quality issues.
3. Responsible for multiple implant system inventories, orders as needed or communicates any special ordering needs to Purchasing.
4. Identify areas of operation where additional staff training is needed and communicate the training needs to the SPD Educator and or Supervisor.
5. Responsible for training Sterile Processing Technicians and Sterile Processing Technician Assistants.
6. Troubleshoot equipment issues and submit maintenance work order requests when needed for all Sterile Processing equipment.
7. Takes immediate and appropriate action if a question of sterilizer failure occurs and coordinates with Quality Assurance Coordinator for product recall when necessary.
8. May be called upon to assist in interviewing and selection of new employees and provide performance feedback, to Supervisor.
9. Checks incoming trays and follows up with departments regarding missing instruments or parts.
10. Maintains inventory of instruments and maintains inventory of trays in collaboration with OR Team Leads. Identifies trends in instruments that are frequently replaced, what can be done to control loss. Gather data regarding inventory, tray and instrumentation usage and assisting management in determining appropriate levels needed.
11. Under limited to no supervision able to identify complex and urgent situations and respond accordingly to those situations to ensure OR needs are met. Clearly communicate and adjust assignment schedules based on each situation and delegate to technicians appropriately.
12. May be asked to serve as a backup for reprocessing flexible endoscopes and Tee Probes.
13. Acts as a mentor/coach to Sterile Processing Technicians and provide on-the-spot feedback for issues that arise.
14. May be asked to create or update daily assignment schedules for staff.
15. Communicates effectively by providing clear and concise verbal, written and telephone communication with a strong customer service focus. Demonstrates professionalism and accountability.
16. Responsible for identifying instrumentation and trays needing preventative maintenance and repair and coordinating the onsite and offsite repair process including communication to department, preparing for transport and shipment, and receiving back into inventory on completion.
17. Provides guidance and direction to Technicians regarding regulatory compliance concerns.
18. In time of need may be called upon to clean, decontaminate, inspect and assemble a high variety of complex surgical instruments and instrument sets.
19. Adheres to regular and predictable attendance.
20. Performs other job-related responsibilities as requested.
Education and Learning:
REQUIRED:
High School Diploma or equivalency + completion of an approved surgical tech or sterile processing tech program
OR
High School Diploma or equivalency + Certified Registered Central Services Technician (CRCST) upon hire

Associate degree in related field
Work Experience:
REQUIRED
2 years Sterile Processing Tech or Surgical Tech experience.
