Your OpportunityWe are seeking a Senior Stormwater Engineer for our Calgary office within our Community Development group. You will have the opportunity to work closely with the Stormwater Engineering Manager on team building, business development, and project leadership. You will perform a variety of tasks, which may include supervising junior staff, industry engagement, client and business development support, stormwater discipline leadership on projects, report preparation, plans and construction documents, and project management. Our projects include stormwater management work across multiple sectors: municipal, transportation, subdivision, and private site development. The selected candidate must be self-directed, capable of leading and supervising small teams, eager to mentor staff, and should demonstrate a passion for involvement in the stormwater industry and an enthusiasm to help develop the practice locally. This role will require a balance of supervisor responsibilities, discipline leadership, project leadership, business development, engineering, and design coordination.
Your Key Responsibilities Supervise junior staff in the Stormwater Team and support hiring new team members, as required. This involves mentorship, training, workload resourcing, and career development. Engage in client and business development opportunities. This may include support with the development of marketing materials and tools for business development. Support and lead industry engagement efforts. Assist in leading design teams related to stormwater and drainage improvement projects, including the components of major infrastructure and multi-disciplinary projects. Oversee designs from a team of engineers and technicians who perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses using PCSWMM and designs using CAD software. Assist and/or lead the development and preparation of project design elements, including design reports, plans/drawings, specifications, and cost estimates. Guide projects through to completion, including preliminary/conceptual design, detailed design, scheduling, tendering and construction. Conduct peer reviews and provide quality control reviews of engineering documents, reports, plans, technical specifications, contract documents, and estimates. Assist and/or lead in pursuits, including the preparation of client proposals, scopes, project teams, budgets and schedules. Liaise with clients, agencies and other authorities to determine project requirements, permits, and approvals. Your Capabilities and Credentials Collaborative work style that is conducive to working effectively in a hybrid team environment. Must have a thorough understanding of stormwater management principles in the context of subdivision and private site development, transportation infrastructure projects, and local/community drainage improvement projects. Must demonstrate a sound understanding of project management fundamentals and financials, including experience in leading design and project teams. Existing working relationships with private developers and local municipal staff is considered an asset. Knowledge of software programs including PCSWMM and AutoCAD. Working knowledge of Civil 3D Software and GIS are considered an asset. Must be a self-motivated individual possessing strong and effective written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational and time management skills, along with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and demonstrate a flexible approach to work assignments. Must exhibit attention to detail and accuracy. Registration or eligibility to register as a Professional Engineer with APEGA is preferred. Education and Experience Civil Engineering Degree or equivalent in related field; A Master’s in Science, Civil Engineering, Hydrology/Hydraulics, or related field is an asset; equivalent combination of education and experience is an asset. Minimum of 15 years of experience.Position will primarily work in an office setting but may require some field work. Stantec is proud to offer flexible work arrangements.
