ABOUT THE POSITION

Senior Structural Bridge Engineer | Orlando, FL | Tampa, FL | Hybrid

 

VHB is in search of a Senior Structural Bridge Engineer to join the established and growing Structures group in our FL offices. In this position, you would serve in a lead technical role in the planning, analysis, design, and detailing of bridge and other transportation related structural projects - from highway to pedestrian to rail - as well as mentor our structural team. The ideal candidate should possess a “can-do” attitude, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to work independently as well as with a team in a dynamic, fast-paced, and fun environment.

Responsibilities

Perform structural modeling, design, and oversight for bridge and other transportation infrastructure projectsPrepare construction documents, including plans, specifications, estimates and calculation packagesProvide technical support/mentorship to structural engineering staffPerform quality assurance reviews of project construction documents, engineering reports, etc.Assist in preparation of qualification packages, proposals and/or contracts involving technical approach, costs, and schedulingProvide project management supportReview fabrication drawings and provide construction plan reviews

Skills & Abilities

Self-motivated with excellent attention to detail and qualityMust possess strong technical skills in bridge/structural design and critical thinkingStrong organizational and time management skillsEffective and comfortable in a highly collaborative team environmentDemonstrated excellence in verbal presentations and technical writing is essentialExperience with and motivation to lead and mentor junior staffModel-based design experienceProject management skills

Minimum Qualifications:

5-8 years of structural bridge design experience (LRFD)B.S. in Civil Engineering required; emphasis in Structures preferredPE license required Experience completing engineering studies, design reports, compiling contract documents and developing contract plans, in conformity with accepted engineering standards and procedures including AASHTO, FDOT, local municipalities/counties, and other state DOTsStrong familiarity with any of the following structural engineering software
(i.e. Mathcad, FB-MultiPier, ATLAS, STAAD Pro, LARSA 4D, AASHTOWare, MDX, SP Column, MerlinDASH, FDOT Structures Design Programs, etc.)Model-based design experience is a strong plus:Bentley OpenBridge and OpenRoadsAutoCADD Civil 3D and Revit/Infraworks/Inventor

Preferred Qualifications:

8-11 years of structural bridge design experience Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in Structures1-2 years of experience can be substituted for a Master’s degree
