HDR is currently seeking a Senior Substation Electrical Engineer to join our growing and nationally ranked team of Power Delivery professionals in Western Canada.
Primary Responsibilities
The primary duties of the Senior Substation Electrical Engineer include responsibility for knowledge and execution of the technical aspects and deliverables of projects assigned and is an experienced, competent engineer who generally understands and can complete all technical requirements of projects of moderate to high complexity.
Specific duties include:
Assigns project tasks and provides technical guidance to junior and mid-level team members on moderate to highly complex projects.Performs QC reviews for work performed by junior and mid-level engineers and/or designers.Works with other senior engineers and technical leaders to identify and develop specific technical expertise and will attend training and seminars focused on further development and understanding of complex concepts related to their discipline.May assist with developing technical papers and/or presentations that showcase HDR’s technical capabilities at industry conferences or other events.Will also be responsible for quality control reviews of projects from other teams on an as needed basis. Works independently and may direct, mentor, train, and/or supervise efforts of less-experienced EIT's and/or Designers. Preferred Qualifications A minimum of 8 years of substation design experience required, both indoor and outdoor experience preferred.Experience developing design specifications, studies, reports, and analysis related to substation design.Strong written and verbal communication skills preferred.Previous consulting firm experience desired.Experience using electrical design software such as SKM PowerTools, ETAP, or EasyPower, CDEGS, and WinIGS.Experience developing technical standards and best practices Some travel may be required.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in EngineeringA minimum of 10 years of experienceProfessional Engineers (PE) licenseExtensive experience in project execution within the Power Market SectorProficient computer skills in Microsoft Office as well as standard Power Market Sector design software (examples include PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit)An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture
