POSITION SUMMARY The Overhauling Supervisor oversees multiple mechanical teams in performing preventive, corrective, and repair maintenance for smelter plant equipment, including electrodes, hydraulic systems, pumps, conveyors, fans, compressors, piping, tanks, and valves. The role involves planning and assigning work, redirecting resources to meet service priorities, reviewing maintenance work, and recommending improvement initiatives to achieve Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
This role requires a hands-on approach in both workshop and site settings. The incumbent must possess excellent technical and supervisory skills and coordinate work activities across multiple teams. The position also ensures staff management, work quality assurance, and adherence to 5S maintenance standards.
POSITION SPECIFICATION Education & Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. Experience: Minimum of 8 years of experience in mechanical maintenance and overhauling. Technical & Functional Competencies: Deep expertise in mechanical engineering. Extensive hands-on experience with mechanical works and repairs, including pumps, conveyors, and compressors, using vendor instructions, OEM manuals, and technical drawings. Preferred experience in smelter plants or similar industries. Proficiency in fabrication, welding, and machining processes. Strong experience in assembly, disassembly, installation, and dismantling supervision of mechanical equipment. Proficient in maintenance overhauling supervision, including material handling, consumable control, tools management, and checklist implementation. Skilled in using CMMS for work order tracking and updates. Strong adherence to safety requirements, including work permits, hot work, and confined spaces. Proven track record in complying with safety regulations and promoting a safe work environment. Key Skills: Critical thinking and decision-making. Technical safety and mechanical maintenance management. Knowledge of mechanical codes and standards. Risk assessment and troubleshooting technical problems. Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) implementation. Budgeting, resource management, and performance tracking. Maintenance and shutdown planning. Strong leadership and people management skills. Industry-Specific Knowledge: Experience working in a manufacturing or heavy industry environment. Preferred experience in the smelting industry. KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Plan maintenance schedules and activities to minimize downtime. Prioritize work schedules for operational maintenance, repairs, rebuilds, and overhauling. Supervise and direct mechanical technicians, ensuring safety, work quality, and skills development. Ensure compliance with SHE (Safety, Health, and Environment) policies. Maintain a clean and safe workplace while implementing 5S principles. Manage and report workplace incidents and safety breaches. Review and approve quotes for materials and supplies. Estimate costs and timeframes for maintenance work. Review and evaluate completed work for quality and efficiency. Follow up and close work orders in SAP. RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES Ensure all maintenance processes align with company policies and safety regulations. Maintain operational efficiency through proactive maintenance and effective resource management. Foster a culture of continuous improvement by identifying process enhancements. Provide leadership and mentorship to technical teams, promoting skill development and adherence to best practices.
