Senior Sustainability Data Specialist - Thomson Reuters Foundation

About the Thomson Reuters Foundation

The Thomson Reuters Foundation is the corporate foundation of Thomson Reuters, committed to advancing media freedom, fostering inclusive economies, and promoting human rights. The Foundation leverages journalism, legal expertise, and convening power to drive systemic change.

About the Responsible Business Team

The Responsible Business team at the Thomson Reuters Foundation works to promote corporate transparency and ethical business practices that support more equitable economies. By leveraging TRF’s global networks, legal expertise, and data intelligence, the team collaborates with businesses, investors, lawyers, civil society organisations, and journalists to explore how business decisions impact lives and livelihoods.

Their work spans a range of critical issues, including:

Labour rights and workforce transparency

Responsible adoption of AI technologies

The just transition to a greener economy

Key initiatives include the Workforce Disclosure Initiative (WDI), which improves data and transparency on how companies treat workers across their operations and supply chains, and the AI Company Data Initiative (AICDI), a partnership with UNESCO to shape ethical corporate AI adoption.

The team also hosts cross-sector working groups, data-driven briefings, and training sessions, and plays a central role in TRF’s annual Trust Conference, which convenes global leaders to discuss pressing human rights and business issues.

Their mission is grounded in TRF’s broader goal: to strengthen free, fair, and informed societies by helping shape economies that balance people and profit.

About the Role:

Lead data analysis on corporate workforce and AI governance disclosures using Excel and Python (e.g., pandas, matplotlib, basic statistical libraries).

Design and manage complex dataset and analysis models and interactive and user-friendly dashboards for investor and business audiences.

Contribute to annual findings reports and thematic market intelligence research based on survey data, identifying meaningful patterns and translating findings into narratives for investors and companies.

Support the maintenance and refinement of surveys, ensuring surveys are aligned with stakeholder needs and leading standards, methodologically sound, user-friendly for company respondents.

Conduct survey methodology reviews and work closely with internal teams and external partners to gather feedback and implement updates.

Apply and interpret foundational statistical models to draw insights for investors and businesses, particularly regarding risk pathways (e.g., labour rights violations, AI misuse) and their implications for financial and commercial outcomes.

Where appropriate, apply sentiment analysis or other text-based analytics to assess company narratives or qualitative disclosures.

Co-author insights and contribute to thought leadership and collaborative research with knowledge partners by integrating original data analysis with desk-based research.

Mentor junior analysts and support capacity-building within the team.

About You

We are looking for a data-driven, curious, and impact-oriented researcher with strong analytical capabilities and a passion for responsible business, workforce equity, and AI governance. You should have:

Proven experience in data analysis and market research (sell-side research experience is desirable), preferably 4+ years, with demonstrated ability to work across both quantitative and qualitative datasets.

Strong working knowledge of Excel and Python; familiarity with VBA, Power BI, R, or Tableau is a plus.

Solid understanding of foundational statistical methods (e.g., descriptive statistics, correlation, regression) and the ability to apply them to generate insights

Good working knowledge of financial market and private sector, proving experience in delivering market research is a plus.

Experience working with or designing survey tools, including reviewing survey methodologies, optimizing data structure, and integrating survey feedback.

Deep understanding of corporate transparency, financial materiality and ESG disclosure standards/frameworks (e.g., UNGPs, GRI, ISSB, UNESCO AI Ethics Recommendations).

Ability to translate technical findings into clear, compelling insights for non-technical audiences, including investors, civil society, and company stakeholders.

Demonstrated data intuition – the ability to identify outliers, trends, and inconsistencies and to assess the reliability and relevance of data points in context

Familiarity with AI governance, labour rights, or just transition concepts, and willingness to deepen knowledge in these areas.

Interest or experience in text analysis, such as sentiment analysis based on corporate disclosures or policy statements (preferred but not required).

Strong writing skills and experience co-authoring thematic reports or insights publications.

A collaborative mindset and an ability to manage multiple data streams, working closely with internal team members and external knowledge partners.
