Senior Systems Administrator

Opportunity Summary

The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for managing and maintaining critical IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, and telecommunications systems, to ensure reliability and performance. This role involves ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, troubleshooting high-level technical issues, and collaborating with vendors and clients to implement tailored solutions. The ideal candidate will drive improvements in system availability, security, and efficiency while staying current with emerging technologies.

Here's a look at some of the work you'll be performing:

System and Network Administration

Oversee the maintenance, installation, patching, upgrading, and troubleshooting of systems, including workstations, servers, switches, firewalls, SD-WANs, VOIP telecommunications, and other critical hardware. Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Windows Server roles such as Active Directory, DFS, DHCP, DNS, RDS, NPS, and CA to support business operations.

Infrastructure Management

Ensure the integrity, availability, and performance of IT infrastructure, including physical and virtual servers, applications, networking, and telecommunications systems, through proactive monitoring and maintenance. Collaborate with managed service providers for server management, security solutions, and network hardware upgrades.

Compliance and Security

Ensure adherence to industry regulatory standards (e.g., NERC) and IT security best practices through regular assessments, updates, and documentation. Assist in maintaining compliance with IT security standards by implementing policies, procedures, and controls.

Operational Technology (OT) Support

Support and manage industrial Ethernet and fiber networking in OT environments, including setup, configuration, and maintenance of communication equipment.

Vendor and Hardware Management

Work with hardware and software vendors, including HP, Dell, Lenovo, Cisco, SonicWall, Fortinet, Synology, and others, to ensure effective system operations and upgrades. Leverage tools such as VMware, Hyper-V, Datto backup, Veeam backup, antivirus solutions, and VPN technologies for infrastructure management.

Documentation and Policy Management

Develop, update, and maintain IT policies, procedures, and documentation for the Remote Operations Center (ROC) and related infrastructure. Retire outdated documentation to ensure compliance with industry standards and internal requirements.

Site Support and Troubleshooting

Travel to sites as needed to install and configure hardware, troubleshoot connectivity issues, and ensure optimal system communications and performance. Resolve high-level technical issues across IT/OT operations, involving both hardware and software components.

Client Collaboration and Continuous Improvement

Work directly with clients to understand IT requirements and deliver tailored solutions that meet business needs. Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to recommend and implement improvements.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Travel to plants is required to meet client or project requirements. Work is performed on industrial sites when traveling, requiring protective clothing and equipment. Working on industrial sites will also require climbing steps and ladders. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facilities.

Fitness for Duty

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer drug screening.

Work Schedule

Normal working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (CST). Occasional travel, up to 25%, may be required to support plant assets, with extended hours potentially needed during travel or to meet project-specific demands.

Compensation

The initial starting compensation will range from $90,000 to $135,000 and will include an annual performance bonus.

Why you’re the perfect addition to our Team (about you):  

Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field. Knowledge of industry regulatory standards such as NERC and IT security best practices, with a proven ability to maintain compliance. Proficiency in configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting Windows Server roles (e.g., Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, RDS, and DFS). Hands-on experience with network infrastructure, including switches, firewalls, SD-WANs, and industrial Ethernet or fiber networking in OT environments. Familiarity with virtualization platforms such as VMware and Hyper-V for managing physical and virtual servers. Knowledge of backup and recovery solutions like Veeam or Datto to ensure data integrity and availability. Experience with enterprise hardware from vendors such as HP, Dell, Lenovo, Cisco, and SonicWall. Strong understanding of IT security tools, including antivirus solutions, VPNs, and monitoring software. Exceptional problem-solving skills with the ability to assess and resolve high-level technical issues independently. Strong organizational and time management skills, with a commitment to completing tasks efficiently and accurately. Must possess a valid and unrestricted driver's license, ensuring it remains in good standing at all times.
