Position Description:
Performs analysis of Unix/Linux computing environments and identifies methods to improve efficiency. Provides hardware and software support on a rotational basis for enterprise Unix and Linux servers, Veritas Volume Manager (VxVm), Veritas Volume Replicator (VVR), and Veritas Cluster Server (VCS). Performs incident, problem, and change management, and service requests for production and non-production environments. Participates in Unix and Linux operating system administration tasks -- conducts complex operational support and resolves problems. Remediates service requests assigned in a timely manner. Carries out system maintenance, and schedules upgrades and the startup and shutdown of networks and system components on standalone and open-stack Cloud. Participates in creative multi-functional assignments and phases of a project. Communicates with vendors to address hardware and software issues.
Primary Responsibilities:
Prepares technical and project proposals for management review and approval.
Participates on multi-functional crisis resolution teams as required.
Provides research and analysis to support business unit project initiatives.
Performs on-call coverage on a rotational basis with other systems administrators in support of system hardware, software, and business applications.
Develops necessary project plans for hardware and software upgrades, including installation and testing.
Consults on most complex design and configuration issues, including topology, operating systems, and integration issues.
Troubleshoots and resolves complex hardware and operating system problems.
Provides technology solutions to daily issues.
Collaborates with cross functional teams to analyze, investigate, and diagnosis root cause of issues.
Coordinates incidents, work requests, and changes.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and three (3) years of experience as a Senior Systems Administrator (or closely related occupation) providing hardware and software support on a rotational basis and supporting enterprise Unix/Linux servers or Openstack Cloud.
Or, alternatively, Master’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field and one (1) year of experience as a Senior Systems Administrator (or closely related occupation) providing hardware and software support on a rotational basis and supporting enterprise Unix/Linux servers or Openstack Cloud.
Skills and Knowledge:
Candidate must also possess:
Demonstrated Expertise (“DE”) implementing and supporting Veritas clustering solutions within single and multi-node configurations, using clustering software (VCS, SF, and SFHA); performing file system management of EXT3, EXT4, VXFS, XFS, and NFS files using operating systems and array management tools (VXVM-Veritas volume manager and VCS Veritas Cluster); and developing multi-pathing solutions for SAN configurations using Device Mapper and VXDMP.
DE managing Openstack Cluster components and virtualized server environments in Highly Available (HA) enabled Cluster; and managing hypervisor load and migrating virtual machines (VM) to maintain stability using Teamquest, Node-Exporter, and inbuild OS features.
DE performing migrations – datacenter (Lift and Shift), storage (host and array based), and network migrations in coordination with network teams.
