Do you think you have the ability and drive to stay on top of the continuously changing needs of this exciting industry? You would be joining a team that thrives on collaboration, technical excellence, and helping Canada’s national public broadcaster tell stories that are important to Canadians.
Your role
We are searching for a systems administrator with experience managing enterprise storage (incl. backups and fibre channel networking) and virtualization platforms. Strong skills in both Windows and Linux environments are essential for success in this role. You will help us manage and provision compute, storage and core platform services that enable our business. Through your expertise you will support leadership, designing, implementing, managing, and maintaining core computing and storage systems.
You will work with internal partners and external vendors to ensure that our systems are well maintained, meeting defined business objectives. Beyond contributing to specific projects and operational initiatives, you will act as an internal systems expert, providing training and guidance to colleagues and internal partners in your areas of relevant expertise.
Your challenge
The successful candidate will join a large team of experienced systems administrators based in Toronto & Montreal, responsible for managing critical systems across Canada and at international bureaux. We provide 24/365 coverage for key services and act as an escalation point for other operations teams in our areas of expertise.
As the successful candidate, you will identify opportunities for improvement, implement solutions to routine issues, and ensure timely knowledge sharing with colleagues. You will achieve these goals collaboratively, prioritizing clear communication across technology teams, and maintain up-to-date documentation and work instructions for daily tasks in your area of responsibility.
Due to the 24/365 operational requirements of conventional and digital broadcasting, from time-to-time you may need to work irregular hours. While we strive to maintain a healthy work-life balance, planned maintenance, special broadcasts, and operational needs may necessitate scheduling outside of regular hours. Based on business needs, you may be required to take part in a shared on-call rotation.
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
A university degree or demonstration of equivalent professional experience.
Familiarity with the use of VMware, Nutanix, and/or OpenShift as a systems administrator.
A working knowledge of common storage technologies is necessary. You will be tasked with recommending solutions and addressing operational needs based on existing best practices and CBC/Radio-Canada architectural guidelines.
Experience with scripting and automation tools will be necessary when automating deployment and configuration at scale.
The candidate will be expected to plan and write documentation for new systems and to update and maintain work instructions and “cheat sheets” to be used by other members of the team.
The successful candidate is expected to have professional experience with the following tasks and technologies:
Operation of commonly used enterprise backup solutions and an understanding of data protection best practices.
System hardening guidelines and best practices.

Must be able to work creatively and independently, using all available resources to resolve technical problems that arise on a day-to-day basis.
Strongly self-motivated with an ability to effectively manage time and priorities.
Excellent interpersonal skills will be required to navigate complex projects and team structures and to ascertain the best approach to addressing conflict when it arises.
Ability to disseminate technical information to other CBC/Radio-Canada personnel and vendors, including non-technical colleagues who may be important partners and stakeholders.
A written technical test (45 minutes) will be administered for shortlisted candidates.
