What we need
We are looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to join our Functional Safety team. Your job will be to guide the development of safety systems for Symbotic, ensuring safe and efficient human/machine interaction. The Senior Systems Engineer works to integrate technical disciplines and functions throughout the development cycle by creating and maintaining a rigorous, structured development process.

The Functional Safety team is integral in ensuring that Symbotic's efficient and cutting-edge warehouse automation solutions adhere to the highest standards of safety and compliance.
What you’ll do
Guide the development of safety systems for Symbotic products through a structured process from stakeholder requirements and Concept of Operations through to system and subsystem design and test, working with engineering, support, and test teams, as well as with customers.
Run an ISO 12100 risk assessment process and generate requirements for safety systems to mitigate risks.
Collaborate with engineering in the design of a safety architecture and hazard mitigations.
Create and manage cross-functional system and subsystem requirements for safety systems.
Collaborate with the test team to facilitate the development and documentation of appropriate tests and ensure coverage for all requirements.
Create and manage traceability from requirements to verification and validation.
Write system and subsystem design documents for safety systems.
Run FMEAs, identify and document gaps, track mitigations, and support process for FMEDAs.
Become an internal expert on applicable standards, e.g. ISO 10218, ISO 62998, ISO 13849, IEC 61508, etc., and how they apply to Symbotic systems.
What you’ll need
BS degree or equivalent in an engineering-related discipline.
Minimum 8 years of experience as an engineer working on complex hardware/software systems.
Minimum 5 years of experience in systems engineering in a regulated domain; e.g. medical devices, avionics, or machine safety.
Creativity and comfort with taking initiative and developing new processes.
Meticulous nature and drive to find gaps in current understanding and processes.
Excellent oral and written communication skills for internal and external customers.
Strong documentation skills and practice.
Experience creating and managing requirements and traceability.
Experience running risk analyses and FMEAs (ideally supporting FMEDAs as well)
Good technical leadership, planning and organization/control skills.
Ability to read, understand and use established standards from bodies such as ISO, IEC, NFPA, UL, etc.
Our Environment
Up to 15% of travel may be required. Employees must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and/or fly to client and other customer locations.
The employee is responsible for owning a credit card and managing expenses personally to be reimbursed on a bi-weekly basis.
