Department Summary:
MITRE’s Law Enforcement (LE) and U.S. Coast Guard and Department focuses on operational support across a broad range of mission outcome areas for Homeland Security sponsors. The LE & USCG Department strives to provide excellence in systems engineering, operational modeling, cybersecurity, intelligence analysis, AI/ML data analytics, sensor systems, and terrestrial & satellite communications with an emphasis on both analytical and lab-based experimentation. We are currently seeking a highly motivated candidate to serve as a Senior Systems Engineer supporting our LE sponsors with Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and cybersecurity.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Provide technical leadership in systems engineering to shape requirements, technology assessments, and development and implementation strategies.Serve as a key contributor to or leader of dynamic, multi-disciplined teams that develop technical solutions through innovation.Independently bring new innovative solutions to sponsor challenges and strategically advocate for new approaches that could impact future acquisitions.Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff members to facilitate their understanding of projects and develop their technical proficiency.Willingness to travel (up to 20%)Basic Qualifications:
Requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.Knowledge of UAS design principles, including aerodynamics, propulsions systems, and avionics.Prior experience working with UAS and/or radar systems.Experience in conducting flight tests and evaluating UAS performance and capabilities.Proficiency in integration and testing of complex systems, particularly within Department of Defense (DoD) or Law Enforcement environments.Strong understanding of cyber-hardening techniques and practices.Ability to assess cybersecurity risks and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.Experience in developing technical documentation for system deployment, operation, and sustainment.Strong interpersonal skills as well as effective verbal and written communication skills.Able to apply technical expertise, operate autonomously, and accept high level tasking.Must have an Active Secret U.S. Government security clearance.This position requires a minimum of 50% on-site presence.Preferred Qualifications:
Current active DoD Top Secret Clearance or DHS FitnessA Master’s degree in a relevant technical field, such as Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Cyber Security, or a similar field.Experience with radar propagation analysis and terrain modeling.Familiarity with LSTAR radars and their operational environments.Experience working with Law Enforcement or Intelligence sponsors.This requisition requires the candidate to have a minimum of the following clearance(s):
