These include products such as the design and fabrication of linear motors, superconducting and conventional rotating motors, power inverters, high-energy capacitors, radiation monitoring systems, high-voltage direct current power distribution systems, and numerous other products.
We have an exciting opportunity in our Aerospace Systems Engineering directorate for a full-time Senior Systems Engineer (SE) to serve as a lead Systems Engineer (SE) on a variety of aerospace development programs and products. The Senior SE will also serve as a SE mentor to the Aerospace Systems. The successful candidate will provide technical expertise to multi-disciplinary teams that may be geographically distributed between Huntsville, AL, Centennial, CO, Fredericksburg, VA, and/or San Diego, CA. This position is located in Huntsville, AL.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Provide expert systems engineering expertise for a multi-disciplinary team delivering SE support for cutting edge missile, projectile, spacecraft and hypersonic vehicle development projectsCollaborate daily with GA and customer engineering and program management teamsLead process to elicit stakeholder needs from government and industry customers to define Concept of Operations, System Architecture, and Systems Engineering approach for weapon system projectsLead development of requirements from system level down to component level to include both hardware and software configuration itemsLead development of verification cross-reference matrices, verification statements, and collection of objective evidence to verify requirements have been metFacilitate the development of mechanical, electrical, and logical Interface Control Documents (ICDs) for weapon system applications to include conducting working group meetings, outlining the document content, eliciting inputs from other engineering disciplines, and editing and review documents as part of the release processLead and support the planning, development and execution of major program technical reviews including System Requirements Reviews, Preliminary Design Reviews, and Critical Design Reviews to include defining entrance and exit criteria; overseeing collection and review of objective evidence; developing and reviewing presentation materials; coordinating meeting logistics with customers, security, facilities, and other organizations as needed; tracking design review action items through closureLead Systems Engineering Working Groups to refine SE work products such as CONOPS documents, ICDs, requirements documents, system budgets and subsystem allocations, etc.Lead and support Risk and Opportunity Management activities including development of risk registers and mitigation plansLead definition and tracking of Key Performance Parameters, Technical Performance Metrics and other similar technical measures of health/progress for weapon system projectsSupport development and review of systems engineering content for proposals, Request For Information (RFI) responses, and other technical white papersCollaborate closely with Design Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Flight Software) and Assembly, Integration and Test (AI&T) teams for weapon system development, prototyping, and test activitiesDemonstrate strong communication skills with and between customers, team members, task leads, functional managers, and program management to facilitate rapid resolution of technical and program issuesServe as the lead systems engineer on one or more development projectsMake technical presentations during working groups and peer reviews, or to senior management or customers, as requiredMentor less experienced systems engineers in SE best practices; socialize and ingrain sound SE processes into the local engineering team culture and project executionPerform other duties as required
