Maxar is immediately hiring for a Systems Engineer/Product Owner to join our Space-Ground Engineering team in Westminster, CO. This position is hybrid with in-office and from home two to three days a week.

Your Project: Our team within Space-Ground Engineering is responsible for defining and managing the development and deployment systems within the Space-Ground Engineering organization including: real-time command and control, data processing and distribution, data archiving, spacecraft calibration and analysis tools, ground resource scheduling, and image meta-data systems. 

We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer, acting also as a Product Owner, to support our agile development scrum teams within the Space Engineering domain.

The successful candidate will have experience with model-based systems engineering as well as generation of traditional SE artifacts, such as Concepts of Operations, Requirements, Use Cases, and related documentation. The candidate has worked with large, complex systems, and will be expected to leverage this experience to quickly learn specific aspects of our ground system focusing on the underlying infrastructure supporting the Mission Control Systems and the tracking of Cyber Security threats to Maxar’s operations. As the product owner, this candidate will be responsible for owning features, supporting development of child user stories and their acceptance criteria, and prioritizing and maintaining their team’s backlog, while also providing technical leadership to scrum teams that keep mission development and implementation processes flowing.

What you'll do day-to-day (with your colleagues):

Lead a scrum development team as Product Owner and Feature Owner - to include aid in facilitating agile ceremonies such as team stand-ups, sprint and quarterly planning, and feature demonstrationsMonitor and track active cyber security threats and coordinate with neighboring development teams to plan and integrate threat mitigationsOrchestrate the design, implementation, and maintenance of our underlying cloud and on-premises infrastructureSupport the Agile Software Development Life Cycle process used to facilitate system baseline changes, taking ownership of those deliverables expected from the customer organizationEnsure quality by managing system and component-level requirements providing traceability to design documentation, test cases, and operational training materialWork directly with other Product Owners, System Engineers, Program Managers, developers, testers, and customers to define technical user stories to generate an optimal system design implementationDevelop as-built design documents for software componentsDesign, document, and maintain service APIsWork directly with internal software development team as well as 3rd party software vendors Create system-level functional flows with an ability to frame all requirements inside those flowsLead development of as-built models and design documents for software components to ensure all documentation is currentContinually learn about our evolving complex systems with particular focus on Cyber Security and Cloud InfrastructureMake contributions to the enterprise vision, engineering processes, and overall architecture roadmapParticipate in design sessions with internal clients from back-end processing to user interfaces, with an emphasis on mission control and mission planning segments within the ground systemsManage customer expectations to ensure realistic deliverables and then exceed those expectationsLead design sessions across operational and support groupsCoordinate team responses to large-scale dynamic requests

Minimum requirements for this position:

Must be a U.S. citizen and possess, or have the ability to obtain, a U.S. Government Top Secret/SCI security clearanceSolid understanding of cyber security principles, protocols, and technologiesFamiliar with Software as a Service and Service Oriented Architectures and the underlying infrastructuresBachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field. Four additional years of experience may be substituted for a degreeMinimum of 5 years combined relevant industry experience in program management, functional management, or technical leadershipDemonstrated success in space and defense industry, cyber security, the military, or equivalent type of commercial industryHigh proficiency in MS Office Suite including MS Project

In support of pay transparency at Maxar, we disclose salary ranges on all U.S. job postings.  The successful candidate’s starting pay will fall within the salary range provided below and is determined based on job-related factors, including, but not limited to, the experience, qualifications, knowledge, skills, geographic work location, and market conditions. Candidates with the minimum necessary experience, qualifications, knowledge, and skillsets for the position should not expect to receive the upper end of the pay range.

● The base pay for this position within Colorado is: $119,000.00 - $199,000.00 annually.

For all other states, we use geographic cost of labor as an input to develop market-driven ranges for our roles, and as such, each location where we hire may have a different range.
