Our Opportunity
We are looking for a Senior Systems Engineering Manager to join the Secure Communications and Information Systems (SIX) UK Naval Portfolio who will be challenged with supporting complex bids & projects.
As a Senior Systems Engineering Manager you will be working in the SIX UK Integrated Capability Engine Engineering (ICE) organisation and on behalf of the Radio Communications Products Business Line and the SIX UK Engineering Directorate. The role will report into the SIX UK Head of Systems.
Role responsibilities:
· To lead the engineering solution into the £250M MCCS programme which includes the definition of core engineering services and obsolescence recovery DDQS projects.
· To lead the team of systems, hardware and software engineers to transition from the FWC (AS IS) programme team to the MCCS (TO BE) organisation. The MCCS programme team is expected to be in excess of 50 engineers spread across multiple locations including industrial partners and subcontractors.
· To ensure all MCCS programme engineering processes are developed and documented in consort with Chorus 2.0 and the SIX Naval Portfolio requirements including mechanisms for working with and contributing to Product Line Management.
· To contribute to the SIX UK technical strategy for Naval Communications and product strategy, in particular in the domains of HF and integrated communications systems alongside the HF Product Line Authority (PLA).
· To ensure FWC and MCCS engineering solutions are fully aligned to the SIX UK technical strategy, product policy and are signed off by the SIX UK Naval Design Authority. Compliance with Chorus 2.0 plus all the relevant solution safety and legislative compliance including MAA AAOS and Cyber Security is a fundamental requirement.
About You:
You will need to be self-driven, have good communication skills as well as the following:
· Knowledge of the complete end-to-end engineering process from requirements capture through to installation and setting to work on RN ships and submarines.
· Knowledge of working with the UK MOD to deliver Through Life Management solutions to range of complex systems, the ideal being to have experience of the Naval Common Support Model, MAA/ATM Safety and Cyber Security of communications systems, IT systems and C4I Systems.
· Knowledge of Naval Communications solutions and experience of their design and development
· Experience of the concept development and refinement of Naval Communications architectures
· Experience of the design development of RF solutions for Naval Communications
· Experience of designing solutions to meet the stringent product demands of equipment operating in deployed military environments (environmental, electronic, power, security etc.).
· Capable of ‘hands-on’ implementation of design solutions and technical problem solving.
· Strong oral, written and visual communications skills, particularly in communicating complex, technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
· Experience of leading technical teams implementing concept demonstration and prototype Naval Communications solutions.
