Senior Tax Accountant

As a result of our continued growth, we have an exciting opportunity for a part-time Senior Tax Accountant to join our Finance team at either our Middleton (greater Madison area) or West Allis, WI (greater Milwaukee area) office locations. We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented professional to manage our tax compliance and reporting. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of sales/use tax, income, franchise, and property tax as well as a proven track record of delivering high-quality tax services. The hours for this position could vary weekly from 15 to 25 hours per week and may occasionally exceed 30. Since this position is part-time, there are no benefits. Responsibilities include: Establish tax policies (excluding payroll tax) for the company. Register and file sales and use tax with applicable states. Evaluate taxability of all new engineer, procure and construct (EPC) projects. Assist business development and estimating departments with reviewing potential tax issues of EPC projects prior to contract execution. Work with EPC project managers to obtain tax exemption certificates from clients and establish written project specific guidance related to purchases made on EPC projects. Work with accounts payable to issue exempt certificates to vendors when appropriate. Work with parts department to establish sales and use tax policies. Ensure all vendor invoices have correct sales tax and work with accounts payable to resolve issues. Ensure tax codes are up to date in ERP. Work with outside accounting firm to prepare and file quarterly estimated income taxes, prepare and file annual income tax returns and file taxes for joint ventures. Coordinate research and development study and 179D studies with outside accountant. Maintain all online accounts with states and federal. Work with compliance to ensure proper status of tax accounts given the status of registration. Prepares property tax returns for approximately 45 offices. Complete joint venture accounting and coordinate tax returns with outside. The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field from an accredited college or university AND at least 10 years of relevant tax accounting experience. The ideal candidate will have any/all the following: Experience with sales and use tax is preferred Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations and compliance requirements. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
