Senior Tax Manager – State and Local Tax (SALT)

A highly regarded accounting and consulting firm is seeking a Senior Tax Manager to join its State and Local Tax (SALT) group in Frisco or Dallas, TX. The Senior Tax Manager will lead multiple core state sales tax projects, including nexus and taxability reviews, audits, refund opportunities, and high-level technical responses to state taxing authorities. This role involves managing client relationships, mentoring team members, and contributing to business development efforts while ensuring the delivery of exceptional client service.

Responsibilities

Perform technical tax reviews and approvals of sales tax returns and governmental tax examinations. Lead client engagements, ensuring tasks are completed within budgeted timeframes. Oversee tax research projects, producing accurate and efficient results. Actively participate in client meetings and tax planning efforts, providing technical expertise. Manage governmental tax examinations and represent clients before state taxing authorities. Develop and maintain knowledge of general economic and political trends that may affect client businesses. Identify and implement sales tax preparation and tax research software improvements. Contribute to firm practice development through networking, community involvement, and industry activities.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Mentor and develop Supervising Seniors, Seniors, and Staff Accountants. Oversee training, reviews, and evaluations within the Tax Department. Provide guidance and instruction to Tax staff members based on their qualifications and training needs.

Qualifications

5-7 years of public accounting experience with increasing complexity in tax scope, research, and client representation. At least 2 years of experience representing clients before taxing authorities. Minimum of 1 year of experience supervising and directing tax preparers. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; Master’s degree in Taxation preferred. Minimum of 40 hours of continuing education annually. Proficiency in computer tax preparation, tax research, and tax planning software. Demonstrated knowledge of current tax laws and key sales tax issues. Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.

Compensation and Benefits
