In this crucial role, you'll report directly to the Operational Finance Director as a key member of the Finance leadership team to lead Screwfix's tax compliance obligations across all business operations. You’ll deliver strategic business support and provide expert advisory services for our long term business plan, along with various industry leading projects. You'll work collaboratively across the business to drive initiatives aimed at effectively managing and significantly reducing tax risks for Screwfix. Moreover, you will be instrumental in offering comprehensive compliance and insightful guidance on all tax-related matters within the organisation, ensuring our financial practices are robust and aligned with best practices.

Responsibilities Oversee Screwfix’s tax compliance reporting operations and activity for the Screwfix businesses’ including ensuring the accurate and timely submission of returns. Responsible for review and submission of returns, including Corporate Tax and VAT returns, with analysis for Director sign off as required. Support the Screwfix business with the tax implications of business decisions, including growth plans, acting act as a trusted Business Partner. Act as strategic advisor on growth plan initiatives and Long Term Plan to determine tax implications and provide recommendations. Act as advisor to key business functions to ensure tax compliance with commercial activity. Anticipate and assess industry developments and legislation changes, advisinge the business accordingly, leading, influencing and or implementing the necessary changes. Provide technical support and expertise, as required, particularly covering local VAT requirements, to the Screwfix businesses. Work alongside key stakeholders, influencing, advising and ensuring the business is compliant with its obligations, including Customs & Duty, Transfer Pricing, Direct Tax, Property Taxes and IT system compliance. Identify, develop, influence and own actions to address potential areas of tax risk within Screwfix, maintaining a tax risk register to support reporting requirements to Kingfisher Group Tax. Work across the Kingfisher Group to develop strong working relationships to effectively balance Group and Banner requirements. Manage, support and develop the tax team and support knowledge and development of tax skills across the broader Screwfix finance team. Use 1 to 1s, quarterly check ins and agreed performance and development objectives to drive and support great performance with direct report/s Lead and Ddeliver finance projects as required by the Director of Operational Finance. Ensure all standard operating procedures for tax team activities are complete and updated annually. Ensure compliance with Group Financial Reporting Manual and Screwfix internal controls, including compliance with Tax & Treasury policies, where relevant to tax. Identify process and system improvement opportunities as part of Screwfix Smart Working, progress agreed changes to drive continuous improvement and compliance. Support internal and external audits as required, including tax enquiries or audits. Continually identify risks and opportunities, escalate, and propose solutions where necessary effectively manage stakeholder expectations throughout – leading on key next steps, actions and change Act as the lead SME and actively-participate in systems/process-improvement projects and standardisation of processes within the business and the wider group. Qualifications Qualified Accountant / Tax Accountant, with experience in tax accounting. Experience of VAT essential. Experience of Customs/Duty & Transfer Pricing preferable. Technically up to date and aware of industry and legislative changes. Experience working with HMRC and external tax authorities preferable. Strong knowledge of financial accounting standards and their practical application (IAS & UK GAAP) and the self-drive and motivation to develop knowledge further. Proactive forward thinking team player with the ability to prioritise and work accurately to deadlines and the determination to resolve queries in a timely manner.
