Job DescriptionAECOM is seeking a highly experienced Senior Technical Advisor- Transit & Rail to support transit and rail projects across Massachusetts and the Northeast region. The ideal candidate will have experience in light rail and heavy rail operations, including systems that include traction power. Based in our Boston office, this role will provide strategic guidance, technical leadership, and client-facing expertise on high-profile transit infrastructure initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Support the technical delivery of transit and rail planning, design, and construction projectsServe as a subject matter expert on commuter rail, light rail, and subway systemsProvide subject matter expertise in transit vehicle engineering, maintenance, and system reliabilityAdvise clients including MBTA, MassDOT, CTDOT and regional authorities on infrastructure strategy, operations, and policySupport multidisciplinary teams on feasibility studies, environmental documentation, and engineering servicesProvide project management and engineering support for the oversight of Northeast Corridor activities, Amtrak activities, and assistance to MBTA Railroad OperationsGuide compliance with FTA, FRA, and state regulations, on projectsSupport the business development and delivery of projects supporting traction power substationsContribute to business development efforts, including proposal writing and client presentationsMentor junior staff, engineering teams and foster a collaborative, inclusive team cultureQualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field + 6 Years years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or educationStrong understanding of FTA/FRA guidelines, and regional transportation systemsPreferred Qualifications:
PE license or AICP certification preferredExcellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills20+ years of experience in transit and rail infrastructure, including planning, design, delivery, operation and maintenanceExperience working with MBTA, MassDOT, or other New England transit agenciesStrong analytical and diagnostic capabilitiesExcellent technical writing and documentation skillsAbility to work independently and collaboratively across departments
