ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB’s growing Washington, DC office is looking for a Senior Technical Editor to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic team and across diverse disciplines, giving you exposure to a wide variety of projects in size and scope. Our office is currently engaged in a number of the region’s most exciting projects as well as energy, transportation, and Federal lands projects nationwide.

 

In this role, you would participate in National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) reviews in the Washington, DC region and nationwide. VHB is involved in some of the most transformative transportation and urban development projects in the Washington, DC region. Outside the Washington, DC region, the DC office supports planning and NEPA reviews for a range of agencies including the National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Indian Affairs, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Surface Transportation Board, and Federal Highway Administration. The Washington, DC office also collaborates with some of the country’s top law firms in NEPA-related litigation. This is an excellent opportunity lead VHB’s efforts to expand its document development program and hire additional editors. This hire will support high-visibility client project deliverables and provide direct client support through technical editing on project deliverables.  

 

Responsibilities

Provides technical editing on deliverables.Supports the production of high-quality client deliverables.Collaborates with managers and technical staff to develop annotated outlines for documents that include page targets.  Interviews technical team members and edit their narrative into plain English. Communicates with management regarding project status, identifies scheduling risks, and works with leadership to adjust resources and/or priorities to balance workloads and meet deadlines.Edits draft responses for clarity, grammar, sentence structure, and spelling.Ensures style guidelines and standards for texts and illustrations are incorporated in production of deliverables.Supports delivery through collaborative production and document assembly.Oversees the production of multiple, simultaneous client deliverable efforts on varying timelines.Advises management and/or leaders on resource constraints and prioritization of efforts.Provides all editing services on time and within the project and client’s budget.Performs all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and VHB policies and procedures.

Skills and Attributes

Strong understanding of the Architecture, Engineering Construction (AEC) industry.Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.Exceptional editing skills with ability to quickly and accurately edit and reformat documents under time constraints.Ability to identify and seek needed information/research skills.Strong project management skills.Ability to adapt to and communicate changes with ease.Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Cloud.Team oriented with ability to perform multiple tasks independently in a timely manner and collaborate effectively and positively with coworkers.Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail oriented.Skills and knowledge must be commensurate with required experience and job level.

Qualifications

8-10 years of technical editing experience in the AEC industryBA in Marketing, English, Communications, or related discipline

Work Environment:

Requires ability to work in a busy office environment with significant computer use. Occasional travel to other VHB offices to lead the expansion of VHB’s document development group.
