**What’s the role?**
Process Safety Professionals play a vital role in identifying, assessing, and systematically minimizing risks in our assets by designing and enhancing design integrity, technical integrity, operational integrity, and integrity leadership principles. Technical Safety Engineering refers to specialized services, processes, and procedures applied to our assets throughout their life cycle (concept selection, detailed design, commissioning and start-up, operation, and decommissioning).
The Senior Technical Safety Engineer will lead, manage, and develop Brazil Process Safety improvements, in line with local legislation and industry process safety initiatives. This role supports site operations, maintenance, and engineering to improve overall process safety results for Brazil operations. The position provides technical support to ensure safe operation and enhance site process safety performance through SHELL SEAM (Safety & Environment and Asset Management) requirements.
Key Responsibilities
+ Translate guidelines and standards into practice, solving common and non-routine safety challenges, and providing safety recommendations that impact local business safety performance
+ Actively drive the identification, development, and implementation of new technologies and opportunities to optimize field operations
+ Contribute to the training and guidance of other safety professionals in the field; may represent the company externally with suppliers, customers, and external agencies
+ Focus on non-standard engineering/technical design activities guided by procedures or multiple precedents
+ Apply specialized understanding of the technical support area and systems within scope, interfacing with the business to implement system changes and processes
+ Handle a range of activities within a limited and well-defined area of responsibility, often requiring variation and adaptation
+ Work within a variety of well-defined procedures and practices, supervised on progress and results; inform management about analysis outcomes
+ Work autonomously within this scope, with regular guidance on project scope and prioritization; may coach less experienced colleagues
+ Focus on business objectives and analyze complex issues
+ Demonstrate good communication skills, both verbal and written
+ Be a strong team player with good engagement and networking skills
+ Take a proactive approach to work and be a self-starter
+ Exhibit strong influencing skills and the ability to develop solid relationships with Shell -Operated ventures and Shell Non - Operated ventures
+ Possess good relationship and leadership skills to interact and influence others at all levels of the organization
+ Demonstrate coaching skills
**What we need from you?**
+ Strong knowledge of Process Safety Technology and Management Systems (over 5 years of experience in a process safety position with a focus on offshore units)
+ Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
+ Post-graduation in Safety
+ Fluency in English and Portuguese
+ Legal authorization to work in Brazil on a full-time basis
+ Knowledge of Risk Management Processes, including Hazards and Effects Management Process (HEMP) (Proven Shell HEMP 101 / TSE 101 courses or equivalent)
+ Working knowledge of 5-year Process Safety Reviews, including:
+ Mastery in technical safety risk assessment tools such as HAZID, HAZOP, Bow-Ties.
+ Initiate and sustain a review cycle/process for bowties according to group requirements to improve the quality of bow ties on a risk basis
+ Engage operations, engineering, maintenance, and other disciplines as necessary to ensure barriers are identified, developed, and implemented thoroughly
+ Provide assurance on HEMP action item closure
+ Benchmark against best practices to drive excellence
+ Drive the process of LOPC (Loss of Primary Containment) management through a holistic approach involving different levels of staff and discipline to achieve Goal Zero “No Leaks” aspirations. Systematically seek out process safety improvement opportunities and drive to ALARP
+ Experience with MOC processes, acting as the MOC process focal point and maintaining an effective MOC process in compliance with MOC standards
+ Working knowledge of Performance Standards and SCE management
+ Knowledge of process safety incident investigation techniques in line with Brazil local regulatory requirements
+ Working knowledge of HSE industry codes and standards
+ Knowledge in physical effects modeling
+ Auditing skills (auditing training or equivalent and experience with auditing processes)
+ Experience with Brazil ANP local regulatory audits acting as focal point on offshore audits supporting the Regulatory Auditors requests, also experience in compliance review with Brazilian authorities’ legal requirements such as ANP (SGSO/SGSS/SGIP) and the Ministry of Labor
+ May hold Technical Authority TA3
+ Offshore embark may be required
