Senior Technical Writer - GI Medical Oncology

SUMMARY

Job Specific Competencies

CLINICAL RESEARCH WRITING AND EDITING - 60%

Utilize highly technical writing ability to compose and abstract medical and scientific information for preparation of grant proposals, manuscripts, and clinical trial protocols.

Provide review, content editing, and proofreading support for internal and external documents to ensure consistency, clarity, and accuracy.

Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, publication standards, and proposal guidelines.

Assist faculty in the development of clinical trials by merging required language from external sponsors/supporters, with the sponsor investigator concept in the format of the institutional protocol template.

Prepare abstracts of professional literature of a technical nature based on reading and comprehension of the material.

Prepare documents by reviewing analyses and interpretations of data to ensure accuracy and alignment with research data.

PROJECT AND TEAM MANAGEMENT - 30%

Provides day-to-day assistance and support to the faculty in all areas of protocol development, writing, and editing.

Serves as a liaison between the clinical research faculty and regulatory staff to expedite trial activation.

Lead and coordinate writing and editing projects. oversee the planning, execution, and completion of medical writing projects, ensuring all deliverables meet quality standards and deadlines. This includes managing timelines, resources, and stakeholder communications.

Team leadership and development. Mentor and guide junior writers and team members, providing training, feedback, and support to enhance their skills and performance. Foster a collaborative and productive team environment.

Maintain electronic databases and electronic files for all writing team projects. Track ongoing projects and assist faculty in completing tasks requiring their attention as needed.

Handle and prioritize multiple simultaneous projects and assignments effectively.

Provides reports to department leadership regarding project status as needed.

DEPARTMENTAL SUPPORT - 10%

Compose endowment progress reports and submit by required deadline. Work with the awarded faculty member to confirm annual efforts are in line with donor intent. Liaise with the finance team to obtain spending information.

Compose award nomination letters or letters of recommendation as requested.

Provide content for departmental websites as needed.

Maintain Research Resources website.

OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

Education Required - Bachelor's degree in a related field.

Experience Required - Four years experience in communications, writing and editing technical/scientific material in a medical, academic or research setting. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis. With preferred degree, two years of required experience.

Preferred Education: Master's Degree in a related field Doctorate (Academic)

Preferred Certification: Board-Certified Editor-BELS Editor in the Life Sciences (ELS), Certification. Medical Writing Certification-AMWA Advanced Certification through the American Medical Writer's Association.
