Senior Test Engineer (Natrium)
The Test and Engineering Discipline within TerraPower, LLC. Is seeking a highly motivated Test Engineer on a full-time basis. In this role, you will perform testing activities to support the Natrium demonstration reactor, including responsibility for documenting test procedures and reports, as well as participate in test activities, process and parse test data, and contribute to project tracking and management. This effort will primarily support component testing for the Primary Sodium Processing System but is likely to extend to other systems within Natrium.
Your role will include interfacing with a team of scientists, engineers, and technicians both internal and external to TerraPower. You will work with Natrium engineers to develop test procedures for high-temperature flowing loop experiments, and act as a support operator for those experiments. Candidates should have extensive experience in all aspects of hands-on laboratory experimentation including writing procedures and reports, designing first-of-a-kind test stands for alkali metal experiments, and safe operation of specialized equipment under hazardous conditions.
Responsibilities
• Lead the creation of test documentation, procedures, data analysis and reports
• Perform complex sets of directions during operation of flowing molten metal and salt loops
• Perform hardware and software verification and validation procedures on pilot-scale systems
• Generate drawings and P&IDS for pilot-scale thermal hydraulic systems
• Support continuous learning and application of nuclear industry best practices to maintain the highest quality of engineering design and proactively identify process change/enhancement opportunities
• Integrate test results with work of other engineers in support of the Natrium demonstration plant
• Collaborate effectively with internal partners such as Procurement, Central Engineering, and other resources to meet project objectives.
• Demonstrate exemplary safety practices and foster a culture of safety in a testing environment
Key Qualifications and Skills
• B.S. degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Nuclear or Materials Science Engineering or equivalent; advanced degree a plus.
• A minimum of three (3) years of relevant, hands-on experience in laboratory research or pilot-scale plant operation
• Experience working with, interpreting, and/or developing engineering drawings for process flow (P&IDs) or electrical schematics
• Experience with common laboratory data acquisition hardware and software, such as NI and LabVIEW
• Experience using and troubleshooting analog and digital sensors common in industrial systems
• Demonstrated ability to write clear and detailed technical documents for review by fellow engineers and scientists
• Experience performing thermal hydraulic calculations is desired
• Ability to participate in a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and scientists with demonstrated results
• Strong analytical/problem solving skills, creative thinker
• Ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently during a given work week
• Ability to work with minimum direction to solve challenging problems and provide recommendations in a timely manner
• The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork
• Willingness to learn and solve challenging problems in a fast-paced environment.

*Typically, our employee salaries are within .90 – 1.0 of the mid-point of the posted salary band. Any salary offered within the posted salary band is based on market data and commensurate with the selected individual’s qualifications and experience. This range is specific to Washington State.
