With the continued growth of the Canadian Rail and Transit sector, Gannett Fleming is seeking an experienced Senior Track Manager, in Toronto, ON to lead and manage track engineering projects. This role is tailored for professionals with a robust technical background and demonstrated expertise in rail engineering, project leadership, and team management. As part of a dynamic team of Transit and Rail specialists, you will provide professional services to Freight, Industrial, and Transit clients across North America. The successful candidate will be instrumental in delivering project excellence, cultivating strong client relationships, and mentoring staff to foster technical and professional growth.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Leadership: Provide strategic guidance and leadership to ensure the successful delivery of rail and transit infrastructure projects.Client Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and contractors, ensuring clear communication and project alignment.Technical Oversight: Oversee and contribute to the preparation of design briefs, feasibility studies, rail infrastructure assessments, and remediation studies. Lead efforts in optioneering, risk assessments, and the delivery of conceptual to detailed design projects. Provide expertise in contract preparation and construction oversight, ensuring comprehensive and technically sound solutions for freight, commuter, and transit projects.Detailed Design Lead: Coordinate and lead the development of detailed track designs, including rail alignments, rail yards, special trackwork, junctions, and facilities for freight, commuter, and transit projects.Interdisciplinary Coordination: Oversee collaboration between track, civil, drainage, utilities, and structural teams, ensuring seamless project execution.Quality Assurance and Control: Review project submittals for accuracy, compliance with standards, and technical quality.Project Management: Manage all aspects of project delivery, including scope development, schedule adherence, cost control, and risk management.Design Build Expertise: Oversee track-related elements in design-build environments, including constructability reviews, alternative technical concepts, and value engineering initiatives.Team Mentorship: Mentor and develop staff, fostering growth in technical and project management capabilities.Proposal Development: Lead and contribute to the preparation of technical and financial proposals for new business opportunities.Education | Experience:QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil Engineering preferred) from an accredited university.Licensing: Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng.) required.Experience:Minimum 15+ years of progressive track engineering and management experience in rail and transit-related projects.Proven expertise in Class I Railways, Light Rail Transit (LRT), and Commuter Rail projects.Extensive experience in design-build project delivery and client-facing roles.Strong understanding of track design integration with systems engineering, utilities, drainage, and structures.Technical Skills:Demonstrated understanding and application of key railway codes and standards, including AREMA, TCRP, and other relevant industry guidelines.Ability to analyze complex data sets related to track performance and maintenance.Proficiency in Autodesk Civil3D and/or Bentley OpenRail.Experience with MicroStation, InRoads/Rail Track (InRail), and related software is an asset.Strong skills in preparing technical reports, design briefs, and documentation to support project deliverables and stakeholder communications.Familiarity with project management software such as Microsoft Project or Primavera P6 to effectively plan, execute, and monitor project progress.Key Competencies:Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and deliver results under tight deadlines.Other:Knowledge of Local Agency Codes and Standards.Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environmentCompany Overview:Life at Gannett Fleming
