EXP is seeking a Senior Traction Power Engineer to join our global Rail & Transit Systems sector. As the successful candidate, you will use your power engineering and integration abilities to successfully win and deliver traction power and multi-system power services to support a wide variety of transportation modes and projects across a dynamic North American market setting. The specifics of the position are as follows:
 

What a day at EXP has in store for you

Build and maintain external client relationships to a high level of trust and engagement. Perform initial studies, system level design concepts, then detailed design and oversee the delivery of the assets through their construction phase. Provide effective co-ordination with other discipline leads and members and foster a collaborative approach to problem solving. Design, construction and commissioning of traction power systems. Organize junior resources to assist. Drive your projects towards successful completion. Assist in establishing appropriate operational budgets for the Electrical Systems team and effectively manage cost and delivery performance in accordance with business and project financial objectives. Liaise with the Project Controls Manager to effectively monitor project delivery performance. Perform ‘by example’ in achieving company health, safety, security & environmental and ethics & compliance objectives. Assist with business growth and the pursuit of new work in collaboration with other members of the team. Effectively communicate decisions, contractual clarifications or technical explanations on all matters relating to Electrical System service offerings to both internal and external clients.  Of particular importance is the ability to do so in a professional and constructive manner, even when the outcome may not be favorable to all parties. Develop creative and innovative solutions to challenges encountered with design, procurement, construction, installation, testing and commissioning or similar activities that may arise throughout the lifespan of a project. 

 

What your experience looks like

A Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent. Minimum of 8-12 years’ experience. Licensed Professional Engineer. Professional experience to have been obtained in Rail & Transit, or a power transmission or distribution system or such a system devoted to serve a single company (e.g., a power station serving a smelting plant). Knowledge of the principles, application, specification and integration of: MV/HV power cables. MV Switchgear & protection types. Power transformers. Substation ancillary systems including LV services, batteries, chargers and UPS systems. Design of substation layouts and conduit / wiring runs. Grounding studies, GRP and grounding grid design. Excellent interpersonal skills. Excellent communication and report writing skills. Ability to effectively interface with engineering specialists, design managers and construction project managers in a competent professional manner; Experienced in delivering HV and LV system studies and design mandates in Rail & Transit or Power Transmission & Distribution project settings. Working knowledge of FACTS, filtering and other power electronic conditioning equipment and their applications. Working knowledge of AC and/or DC protection systems and applications. Working knowledge of Rail & Transit Systems that interface with Traction Power Systems, including Track, Communications, Signaling, Vehicles, Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) and Stray Current Corrosion Control is desirable. Previous traction experience on 500V-3000V d.c.. systems or single phase a.c systems desirable. PMP designation will be an asset. Knowledge of and experience with systems engineering will be an asset.
