Job Description
This is an UNPAID internship through the DoD SkillBridge Program for transitioning active-duty US military personnel. DoD SkillBridge Internships are available to help transitioning active-duty military personnel gain real-world experience in the work force sometime during their final 180 days of active-duty service. The intern will actively train on meaningful projects and work closely with a mentor and with senior company leadership. HII Mission Technologies (HII-MT) Internship programs are focused on placing transitioning military into internships that require KSAs, Education & Military Training similar to their current or previous military jobs; positions that could easily transition over to a full-time regular and permanent job with HII-MT.
Objective
The SkillBridge intern will train as a Senior Training Representative with HII Mission Technologies, reporting to a designated HII Mission Technologies Supervisor. The objective of the internship is to design and deliver curricula to train all levels of personnel, develop test and visual aids, conducts training classes, and develop criteria for evaluating effectiveness of training activities. Keeps abreast of training and development research: learning theory, motivation theory, and new materials, methods, and techniques. The intern will be assigned special projects as needed.
Desired End State (2 month target)
At the end of two months, the intern will have developed the core knowledge, skills, and ability to work as a contributing member of a Training Development Team. In addition, the internship will provide the ability to operate within complex programs responsible for developing training courses for future and current Navy Training Programs, gaining invaluable insights into governmental and non-governmental business practices. The intern will also gain experience working with a leading global engineering and defense technologies provider in a dynamic program office environment.
+ The intern will understand the process of developing curricula to US Navy Learning Center’s compliance standards
+ The intern will increase their understanding of instructional design concepts and their application to a training program
+ The intern will develop a deep understanding of different types of learning theories and content development process technologies
+ The requirements of Fleet Introduction Training and Groom training for BFTT and ATD Systems
+ The intern will develop an understanding of managing complex program processes
+ HII Mission Technologies will benefit from the military background of the SkillBridge intern and considers the SkillBridge internship an overall positive experience
Essential Job Responsibilities
Training Location: San Diego, CA
Training Plan
Phase 1 - Basics
+ Week 1: In processing; HII company and policy familiarization, Security and Information Technology Training. Employee introductions and campus familiarization
+ Week 2: Introduction to curricula development and governance. Fundamentals of how the U.S Navy programs develop technical curricula. The intern will review Legacy AIM I to AIM CPM/LOM Conversion Style Guide, Ready Relevant Learning (RRL) Process Manual, and other applicable policies. The goal is to understand the statutory requirements that direct curricula development standards and common practices
+ Week 3: Introduction of best practices of providing continuous high-level, trusted advice and technical assistance regarding curriculum analysis, design, development, implementation, instruction, and assessment in naval vessel courses of instruction
+ Week 4: Working under supervision and in concert with Subject Matter Experts (SME's) to develop course material (task analysis, learning objectives, course master schedules, lessons, instructional aids, training plans, test banks, etc. to naval vessal courses of instruction
Phase 2 – Curricula Management
+ Week 5: Introduction into the Training Impact Review process and the technical notification process that follows a valid impact to training. The intern will develop a working knowledge of the program-specifics, to include government-to-Materials Support Agent (MSA) rules, success criteria, milestones, critical path, metrics, etc.
+ Week 6: Introduction to Multimedia resources to include: text, drawings, still and moving images(videos) graphics, audio, animation, simulation and any other media in which any type of information can be expressed, stored, communicated, and processed digitally
Phase 3 – Curricula Auditing
+ Week 7: Introduction to the In-Progress-Review (IPR) events. Intern will learn curricula review events' scheduling, coordination, and execution process. They will also create quality review matrixes, Plan of Action, and Milestones (POA&M) and checklists, while analyzing appropriate stakeholder deadlines.
+ Week 8: Attend and audit portions of the ITSIS Fleet Introductory Training course for BFTT and ATD Operator and Maintenace courses.
Additional Goals
+ Introduction to Materials Support Agent (MSA) responsibilities
+ Introduce contract support elements and DoD acquisition strategies
+ Development of Formal Training for Submarine HM&E courses
+ Project Management
Minimum Qualifications
Active-Duty Military ONLY within final 180 days of active-duty service. Applications accepted within final 12 months of active-duty service. Education and Experience dependent on Program of Instruction.
+ Must have a SECRET security clearance
+ 3 years relevant US Navy experience with Bachelors in related field.
+ Must have experience operating and maintaining Battle Force Tactical Trainer (BFTT/ATD) systems.
+ Experience performing training analysis, developing programs of instruction including lesson plans, and conducting training in support of the Government.
+ Experience assisting in developing training curriculum, documentation and conducting all training for supported program.

+ Preferred Requirements
+ + Knowledge of NAVEDTRA instructions.
+ Certified Navy Instructor (NEC 9502).
+ Familiarity with Content Planning Module (CPM) and Learning Object Module (LOM) end to end training at the Naval Education and Training Command.
+ Navy Master Training Specialist.
