Senior Transport Planner
To support our continued growth and expansion into new markets we are looking for an experienced transport planning consultant/advisor with strong consulting skills, a genuine interest in transport and thirst for solving client problems. The role will be based in our Cork Office in One Albert Quay but we are open to applications looking to be based in our Dublin office but willing to visit our Cork office regularly to support the Cork team.
The role will report into an Associate Director on the team and offer the candidate a career path to Associate Director grade and beyond.

The transport planning team in Arup has an excellent reputation for delivering cutting edge solutions to the most challenging transportation problems. The Transport planning team in Arup is at the forefront in thinking about the future of our cities, towns and transport networks – driving innovation, using systems thinking, data analytics and modelling together with an advisory mindset, to deliver what our clients need. Our clients task us with their most complex problems trusting us to delivery a holistic and multi-disciplinary solution.

The nearly 20-strong Transport Planning team includes transport planners, spatial planners, data science specialists, transport modelers and engineers from a range of consulting, public sector and operations backgrounds.
The wider transport and cities teams in Ireland are a c. 200 strong team, bringing multi-disciplinary skills ranging from transport planning, to data analytics, strategic advisory, intelligent mobility and sustainability and climate change advisory. The successful candidate will often need to work as part of multi-disciplinary project teams and add value through the application of good transport planning knowledge. They will have a client-facing role and will be required to manage projects or the transport elements of larger multi-disciplinary projects. In the role you will:
Act as project manager and/or technical lead including liaising with clients and other members of design teams. Be responsible for the delivery of project outcomes for our clients Manage other staff members, supporting transportation analysis and the preparation of reports. Be involved in bidding/contract/commercial management for individual projects. Contribute as a transport planning specialist to solve complex challenges for clients. Work collaboratively and iteratively within multi-disciplinary design and consultancy teams. Lead junior teams and perform day to day work activities. Represent Arup while engaging directly with clients and their stakeholders in the development of project deliverables where required. Input to thought leadership to promote Arup and develop capabilities.Your Education/Profile
We welcome all applicants with a keen interest in transport planning and the technical and behavioural ability to deliver for our team. These are the requirements we consider to be essential to the role:
The successful candidate will have a Level 8 Planning, Analytical or Engineering degree (or equivalent).
8+ years’ proven experience in the area of transport, primarily in the consultancy environment, with particular focus on sustainable transport, policy, or development planning. Experience managing projects and teams, as well as working independently. Excellent report-writing skills and the ability to communicate in a variety of formats. Excellent numeracy skills and an ability to leverage these skills to solve complex problems and business challenges. Self-motivated with an ability to work on initiative and liaise with clients independently. Willingness to challenge in a positive and engaging manner. A curiosity and awareness of developing technologies and best practice in the industry. Appropriate professional status (or working towards) with a membership of a relevant professional chartered institute, or eligible for membership of a relevant professional
