ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB’s growing Watertown and Boston, MA offices are looking for a Senior Transportation Engineer/ Planner to join our Transportation Planning & Operations group. The selected candidate will work with a dynamic team of transportation planners and engineers on a variety of public, private, and institutional projects within broad cross-section of markets, including real estate municipal, state agencies, higher education, federal lands and aviation. Our team uses its skills and experience to improve our communities with a sustainable, context-driven and integrated project delivery approach. Our clients include municipalities, MassDOT and other state agencies, and private partners who support the development of the places we live, work, recreate and learn.

 

Responsibilities

Work with a team of multi-disciplinary professionals in a variety of transportation-related areas to develop mobility solutions which consider all users integrating Complete Street concepts within urban and suburban communities.Technical task leader for the design/planning of transportation engineering and planning elements of projects that could include combinations of mid-level and junior level staff.Conduct multi-modal transportation analyses with the ability to focus on complex urban settings, municipal centers, and institutional campuses.Prepare transportation impact, corridor and intersection improvement studies.Conduct research and preparation of reports, and presenting findings and results to clients.Prepares proposals and/or contracts.Establishes budgets. Monitors project progress for technical accuracy and adherence to schedule and budget.Represents VHB at meetings with clients, agencies, and stakeholders to establish needs and discuss project issues.Reviews complete project documents for conformity and quality assurance.Prepares proposals and/or contracts.Establishes budgets. Skills and Abilities

Significant experience applying transportation engineering & planning concepts, practices, and proceduresTeam oriented with the ability to manage multiple assignments and mentor mid-level and junior staff.Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail oriented.Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.Ability to think critically and strategically in solving problems and devising approaches.Skilled with industry-standard software design and analysis systems (e.g., CAD, GIS, traffic simulation).Ability to support in business development activities including identifying new project opportunities, proposal development, project interviews, and general client development activities.Ability to support in business development activities including identifying new project opportunities, proposal development, project interviews, and general client development activities

Qualifications

BS in Civil Engineering, Urban Planning or related field, MS preferred7+ years required, 10+ years preferred of professional transportation engineering and/or planning experienceCandidates with EIT/PE, PTOE and/or AICP certifications are strongly preferredProficiency with Microsoft Office Suite requiredExperience with AutoCAD, Synchro, ArcGIS/data management and/or HCS preferredExperience with PTV VISSIM and/or TransCAD products a plus
