Senior Tunneling and Structure Engineering Specialist
Fluor, together with its joint-venture partner AECOM, has been awarded a four-year program delivery support services contract for the California High-Speed Rail program by the California High-Speed Rail Authority, to provide program delivery and program management services to support one of the largest planned infrastructure projects in the U.S.

The system will connect the 500-mile stretch between the Los Angeles region with the San Francisco Bay Area, with up to 24 stations. The first phase of the program is currently under construction in California’s Central Valley.

Under the general direction of the Tunneling Lead and the Assistant Director of Engineering, the Senior Tunneling and Structure Engineering Specialist provides specialist technical advice, guidance and support related to complex and critical tunnel ventilation, mechanical, fire protection and fire life safety issues related to planning, preliminary design, final design, procurement, and construction of tunnels on the California High Speed Rail Project (CHSR). The Senior Tunneling and Structure Engineering Specialist inputs will include participating in Engineering Services Branch support to other functional branches within CHSR. The Engineer inputs will also include review of updates to maintain the design criteria manual, standard drawings, standard specifications for the future procurement reference. The employee works in the Engineering Services Branch.

• Provides tunnel ventilation, mechanical, fire protection and fire life safety engineering input and support for review of designs related to design criteria, planning, preliminary design and final design, procurement, and construction of tunnels for the CHSR program. Provides specialist advice, guidance, and support for programmatic due diligence review of technical submittals.
• Provides specialist input, support and guidance for studies and research related to tunnel ventilation, mechanical, fire protection and fire life safety engineering in support of engineering services and other functional areas particularly relating to other functional branches.
• Reviews analysis and interpretation of reports, studies and plans in order to establish engineering services position and interpretation of tunnel ventilation, mechanical, fire
protection and fire life safety engineering related codes and third party and local agency
requirements.
• Provides support, guidance and specialist input to the Tunnel Engineering lead based on international and experience of HSR programs and relevant international design standards.
