The opportunity

We have an opportunity for a Senior Underwriter to join the QBE People Risk Team in Sydney. You will be part of a successful and dynamic team spread across Australia, with the opportunity to grow and develop your insurance and underwriting career. You will be responsible for running a profitable portfolio, providing insights and expertise to your customers including underwriting, maintaining a renewal portfolio, new business and responding to quotes. 

Your new role 

As a Senior Underwriter your day-to-day role will include: 

Engage with, lead and develop partnerships in the People Risk market for your very own portfolio strengthening the existing portfolio and leveraging the market leading People Risk model  

Underwrite risks in accordance with defined limits of authority or class authority, organizational policy and underwriting standards. 

Plan and implement a strategy to attract and retain high value customers and to improve current performing policies to ensure portfolio plans are met. 

Identify and implement nationally consistent ‘best practice’ and process improvements 

Support the underwriting of complex risks in accordance with defined limits of authority, organisational policy and underwriting standards 

Develop and maintain good working relationships with all customers, intermediaries, and internal stakeholders. 

About you 

To be successful as a Senior Underwriter you will have proven experience in a similar role with another large insurer. You will also have: 

Broad insurance industry knowledge with exposure to Workers Compensation or Accident & Health preferred. 

Strong customer focus with a focus on building relationships, negotiating and influencing skills 

Established ability in forming customer/broker relationships and relevant market conditions 

Exposure to mentoring, coaching and technical support in a team setting 

Knowledge of risk management and/or portfolio management preferred 

Strong business acumen with the ability to analyse data and use for decision making.
