The opportunity
We currently have an opportunity to join our Midmarket Underwriting team in Sydney or Brisbane as a Senior Underwriter for a product tailored to a niche market. The portfolio includes ISR, Liability and Motor products. Reporting to the Underwriting Manager, your role will be to achieve sustainable profit and growth through the provision of specialist advice, direction and technical support by delivering excellent customer service within your assigned portfolio. You will also underwrite business in accordance with business plans within set underwriting guidelines, service standards and individual earned underwriting authority.
We are looking for commercially astute individuals who are passionate, customer focused and able to develop strong business relationships both internally and with our select Intermediary Partners. You will also bring your initiative, resilience and thrive to a fast-paced changing environment
Your new role
A day in the role may look a bit like this;
Underwrite new business and renewals providing quotes in a timely and professional manner
Participate in meetings, as required, to support the development of strategy, share knowledge and best practice
Monitor and review underwriting standards procedures and checklists
Ensure all documentation is accurate and complies with organisational guidelines and legislative requirements
Develop and maintain good working relationships with all customers, intermediaries and internal stakeholders
Evaluate risk for new business in accordance with standards, to ensure profitable growth
Maintain strong knowledge of current legislation, best practice, underwriting acceptance levels, systems and organisational guidelines
Coach/mentor Underwriters and Assistant Underwriters, on either a formal or informal basis
About you
To be successful in this role you will have a proven background in the insurance industry and strong Underwriting experience. You will also have the following skills and attributes;
Working knowledge or broad understanding of Property, Liability or Motor products
Strong customer/broker relationship skills and focus
Proven knowledge of relevant market conditions for specific class/portfolio
The ability to negotiate and have difficult conversations with Brokers and Stakeholders
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail
