We are looking for a Senior Treaty Underwriter/ Treaty Underwriter to join our Property & Casualty Division in the Singapore office. This position reports directly to the Head of Underwriting, Asia Pacific.
Job Summary:
You will be responsible for evaluating and underwriting treaty reinsurance business for Asia Pacific markets, with a strong focus on India. This role involves assessing the risk and profitability of reinsurance treaties and ensuring that the treaties align with the company’s risk appetite and strategic objectives. Lines of business in scope is predominantly Property & Engineering, with some exposure to Marine, Liability and Motor.
Key Responsibilities
Gather in-depth understanding of cedents through direct communication with cedants/brokers and by analysing the underlying portfolios and submission/reinsurance proposals. Conduct technical pricing for treaties. Analyse, assess and/or draft treaty wordings. Develop market knowledge and analyse/evaluate market information. Make underwriting decisions within authority levels and support the escalation of treaties exceeding authority in accordance with referral guidelines. On the basis of a solid technical analysis, give underwriting recommendations to the Client Management team, and together with the Client Management team, execute treaty business. Monitor treaty performance of cedents together with Client Managers. This include preparing and presenting reports on treaty portfolio performance to senior management. Perform cat and risk monitoring for markets under your care.
Key Requirements / Skills / Experience
Technically strong underwriter with minimum 5 years’ experience in a reinsurance underwriting/actuarial role. Experience in handling India market from a treaty underwriting perspective. Analytical, solution-oriented mind-set, comfortable working with data and able to work under pressure. Confidence to be the lead underwriter for selected treaties. Independent, reliable and highly motivated team player who is willing to collaborate within and across teams. Supporting teammates during renewals is a must. Good cross-cultural skills and keen to work in an international team. Excellent written and spoken communication skills. Fluency in English is mandatory; proficiency in other Asian languages looked at favourably.
