We are a busy twelve-doctor Veterinary hospital with an amazing reputation in Barrie and beyond - some of our clients travel to us from as far as Sudbury! Our team is actively involved in fundraising and working with The Global Alliance for Animals and People in Canada, Central America and the Caribbean. We collect food for the Barrie Food Bank, and work with numerous rescue organizations. We are AAHA and CVO accredited and strive to provide high-quality care. Our team prides itself on providing outstanding care to our patients and clients. We are looking for an enthusiastic Veterinary Assistant who thrives in a fast-paced environment where every day there is something new to learn and something fluffy to cuddle.
The Veterinary Assistant position is valuable to the entire veterinary team. Every department relies on their significant role in aiding with a variety of services to provide excellent client and patient care.
Job Description Overview:
Assist with patient care and treatment Monitor hospitalized pets and aid in caring for animals after surgery Restrain animals during procedures (i.e., blood draws, nail trims) Aid with routine diagnostic tests (i.e., radiographs) Maintain & sterilize surgical instruments/equipment Clean/disinfect kennels and treatment areas Administer medications under veterinarian and technician supervision Feed and bathe animals Assist clients with their pets as neededQualifications:
Self-starter, motivated, able to multi-taskTeam player Enjoys caring for animals and is able to handle them when they are stressed, ill or in pain in a Fear Free manner 1+ years of experience preferred Ability to meet the physical demands of the job:o lifting, carrying and restraining various sizes of animals (with assistance if over 40lbs)
o lifting 40lbs on own
o walking or standing for extended periods of time
o frequently working in a bent or squatting position
